Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 1)

“Faith, without deeds, is dead” (James 2:17) But of course the Stupid MFers will conclude the deeds are those to shove their faith down everyone else’s throats.

And from earlier in that same book:

On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers’" (Matthew 7:21-23)

Invoking his name is not enough.

Notice also that nowhere in the passages attributed to be Jesus himself speaking is he quoted as having the Judgement be on anything else but you behaving morally towards your fellow human.

It’s like the road with a sign warning of the BUMP. Maybe fix the bump and put away the sign?

I’m Arnold Schwarzenegger and I approve this message.

That sounds to me like a breakdown in communication. Why, if the utility needed to make a big hole in the street to do their work, was it not made obvious that that’s what they were doing? No barrels, no cones, no sign, no reply from local government?

Yeah. I reserve judgment on that whole story. You’d think they’d have at least put in a trench plate or four:

We can’t really tell from the picture, but I wonder if the utility did what they needed to do and repacked the trench with loose fill until they could either resume work or properly patch the trench. In the mean time time it makes for a nasty bump, especially as the fill settles.
I’m fairly sure I’ve seen holes in the road that are just filled with gravel because they’re not done in that area yet.

The exact same thing occurred to me.

I always see signage when that sort of work is being done. It also gives people a warning to avoid it, so that they don’t suffer vehicle damage and/or get into an accident. If they really put a hole in the road and left it there with no signage, that’s on them. And if there was an accident I’d expect a lawsuit.

Depends on what kind of “hole”.

I’ve had construction on a road near me for at least the last year. They work on it and then leave it for a couple weeks to months and come back and dig it up some more.

It’s not exactly holes in the road, but it’s not exactly a flat road either. You definitely have to drive significantly less than the speed limit and be careful or you could damage your car, or at least have a very bumpy ride.

If I had time and resources and the arrogance to do it, I’d go flatten out the road.

I know what you mean, and yeah that’s different from an actual hole or trench. If it’s just a space where the road is uneven that’s a slightly different situation.

NM – already covered.

Update on the pothole situation:

Right? The “DO NOT USE” policy having been in place for over a decade, it’s not like they haven’t had plenty of time to disable the function on all the trains by now.

Wow. Andrew Edwards, a Tory politician and Pembrokeshire council member wants to bring back slavery (formatting is from the quoted article):

Pembrokeshire Council member Andrew Edwards is accused of saying:

“All White men should have a Black slave."

Edwards also claimed Black people are of “lower class” than White people.

Turns out he’s also a magistrate and a school governor. Nice to know the children of Wales are udner the auspices of such a wonderful person.

Is this one of those cases where he did actually say it, but he’s stalling everything by forcing them to prove it was him or is he genuinely saying it wasn’t him?
They say he “enlisted the support of an independent party to look into the audio clip” and author says “In the event that the voice on the audio is indeed that of Edwards”, but they don’t elaborate on it.

Apparently someone thinks he did it; the BBC has him suspended by the Tory Party. Tories suspend Haverfordwest councillor for alleged slave remark - BBC News

A Tennessee Air National Guardsman has been arrested by the FBI after allegedly applying to be an assassin on satirical website “Rent-a-Hitman”.

The FBI alleges that in mid-February, Mr Garcia sent in his CV - which highlights his “military experience, and rifle expertise”…

When there was no response to his application, Mr Garcia allegedly followed up with the site, who responded to Mr Garcia at the direction of the FBI.

An FBI undercover agent soon began corresponding with Mr Garcia. The federal police agency claims he agreed to kill an individual for $5,000.

Man, Guardsmen are not having a good time of it recently.

I foresee some turnover with whoever’s in charge of screenings.

I don’t.

At this point, I’m starting to think we have a navigation/how to read addresses problem along with a gun problem:
