Omnibus World Football Thread 2020-2022 (edited)

I’ve heard that Inter is interested, but I don’t know about their financial capabilities.

If Man City pry Messi from Barca they might include a clause in his contract that he would come to the MLS in 3 seasons, when he will be 36. Im not sure he would be a good fit athletically at that age but who knows?

And the rich get richer…

Messi agrees to 5 yr 700 mil deal? Crazy for a 33 year old.

I don’t understand the deal ESPN is hinting at. All I’ve heard, 700 millions is the contractual transfer fee, so that alone wouldn’t fix a City deal with Messi, who’s been alleged to make 100 Millions a years at Barca. So what gives?

England v Iceland on ABC now

Croatia v Portugal next

Mock if you want but I am missing Euro more than any other cancelled (or postponed) sporting event since the pandemic began. What a fun tournament every four years.

It’ll be backnext summer and then the World Cup just 4 months later. Hopefully.

I highly recommend ESPN+. They have many domestic leagues and are airing every UEFA Nations League match. Im watching Faroe Islands v Andorra. Id never be able to watch a match like this over regular or cable TV.

Hup Faroe!

With all respect, that’s like watching Bumfuck FC vs. Real End Of The World.

I disagree. Its two tiny countries that are playing one of their few winnable matches. They are playing positive football.

This is my personal opinion but I really loved the Andorran stadium. It was tiny so I could see the beauty of the surrounding countryside. I could see traffic flowing. There were apartments with views of the pitch. How cool would it be to live in one and be able to watch matches?

Yes, I would rather watch Germany v Switzerland but I loved the opportunity to watch football on a much smaller level.

Nice goal by Switzerland. Come on Germany and finally win a UEFA Nations match.

Why have Germany had such a hard time replacing Klose? They have maybe the best technical players and are a tall nation? Im a Germany fan but sometimes they frustrate me.

To avoid a legal brouhaha, Messi has ‘reluctantly’ decided to stay on at Barca for one more year.
Awkward season coming up for him at the Camp Nou. Or at least maybe not the warmest of fuzzies goin on.

Trivia tidbit: apparently Ronaldo is envious of Messi’s left foot! :slightly_smiling_face:

Serge Gnabry just scored the first goal of the new Bundesliga season for Bayern (vs. Schalke). And it was a wonderful goal. Bayern are picking up the form they ended the last season with.

Im predicting a repeat Champions League win for Bayern.

It’s early in the season, but I’d love to see a Bayern-Liverpool final. That could be an epic match.

In the meantime, Goretzka and Lewandowski, 3-0 Bayern after 30 minutes. They are just relentless.

Wow what a 8-0 pistol-whipping.
Youngest ever Bayern player scored - Jamial Musiala (why did he have to part from his academy-based Chelsea?) at 17 years 205 days.
(Actually Alaba holds the ‘youngest’ record)
A recreational gripe, but will Lewandowski ever run straight into a penalty kick without any shimmy / stutter / delay dealie?
