Limped over the line, but made it with a game to spare.
It’s always a bit awkward for a club to win a title while sitting on a couch and watching a game.
North London is still watching to see if Spurs can climb to safety.
My very close childhood friend is there and reports that the celebrations are muted so far as the pubs switched to the Spurs game.
Feelings are definitely divided among Arsenal supporters on Spurs’ fate.
Doesn’t look so well for Spurs.
We won the league at Anfield, we won it at the Lane, we won it on the sofa, no one can say the same!
Arsenal v Palace on Sunday might be a teenage scrimmage. Both have upcoming European finals coming up that will be 1000X more important than the result of the last league game.
It’s hard to imagine a less meaningful game that isn’t literally a friendly. As far as I know the outcome not only doesn’t matter for either team but also doesn’t matter to any other teams as far as European spots are concerned.
Oh, and Palaces manager is leaving.
At least for Arsenal, it’s an opportunity to give some players a rest for the CL final, while giving the others playing time that is a little more than a friendly, but not quite a real match. I’d love to see Max Dowman get a start, for instance. Since Raya has already locked down another Golden Glove award, Tommy Setford could get a look, too, although Kepa would probably not be happy if Setford did a leapfrog over him in the order. Myles can get another start in the middle of the park. And Norgaard can get some minutes for probably his last chance with the club.
Anyone here familiar with the La Liga schedule? We’re going to be in Madrid for Thanksgiving week and would be interested in taking in either a Real Madrid or Bilbao match. When do they release the schedule and looking for any advice about getting tickets.
There is no schedule yet, just now they are playing the last games of the Segunda División, they have to know first who is going to get promoted to the Primera División and who will have to play the relegation game. Patience! I can’t even find the dates for the draw of the schedule, which is a bit odd, but in World Cup seasons things get upset sometimes.
Teams to watch in Madrid: Atlético de Madrid, Rayo Vallecano, Getafe, Real Madrid. Bilbao comes regularly to play against those clubs, but the city of Bilbao is about 400 km away.
Just in case, should I not forget: When is Thanksgiving?
22 November to 28 November
Ah, I was seeing an ad for Real Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao on the Madrid tourism site and confused it with Atlético Madrid.
Are games usually a specific day of the week? I imagine Real Madrid tickets are more expensive than anyone else.
Saturday is the big day, but also common to have Sunday matches.
Well, I had been morbidly curious to see if Tottenham would get relegated.
USMNT 1-1 vs Germany in their final warmup. One of the best goals you’ll see that’s weirdly reminiscent of a goal I saw live in the 2007 Gold Cup final.
- Short clearance volleyed straight into the net
- in Chicago
- into the north net
1-2. And that goal was a missile!
If Robinson just had a cramp I think it’s a pretty promising game for the US. Very worried about the cbs if Richards doesn’t come back, but played Germany evenly mostly.
Maybe you got it the wrong way around. Perhaps VAR can avoid a bit of the corruption, if the refs in the video room have the guts. I remember the Japan/Korea World Cup, where Korea beat first Italy and then Spain because the referees gave them the advantage. I was naive: first I jubilated because Italy is one of the enemies. But then they got Spain, and man was that unfair!
I tell you: the same is going to happen this time. The USA will be spared cards for evil fouls (that was today in a fucking friendly! I mean: their trainer is Pocchetino, right? You know him, he is Argentinian! Only el Cholo is worse!), legal goals will not be conceded for their opponents, off sides will not count for them if they lead to a goal, you know the whole shit. Except if VAR intervenes. If they have the guts.
Yes, I know they won’t, but still… the idea is good. The execution can be improved, I concede that much.
If we avoid the USA winning one game too much, specially against Argentina
(is it possible they cross paths? - you know the crossing possibilities better than me) you will maybe come to accept VAR as the lesser evil too.
Germany was by far the beneficiary of the referring today.
At this point I’ve decided that it’s too much complexity for too little gain, VAR will not intervene to avoid biased refereeing because VAR itself is managed by the same biased people.
