I’ll speak to you about this in six or seven weeks.
I did not watch the game, only the YouTube ten minute abridged version. You are Shirley right if you watched it, but my point still stands: with Mafiantino and trump lurking around the US games will not be refereed fairly.
ETA: It is important that the USA does not win the world cup, or even progresses too much ahead in the tournament. Otherwise the forces of Evil will benefit.
Notwithstanding, if the USA win the WC by permanently, obviously cheating refs, this will not look good on the country at all. Everybody would say “yes, that’s how they roll under Trump”.
Yes, abroad. But in the USA it will boost his ratings. He will brag about winning, he will even openly brag about cheating. And get away with it. Only VAR can stop that, if at all.
Let’s hope VAR refs have the guts.
Let me be irrational here, please. They are three, not just one. They are in a separate room, not subject to the pressure of the crow shouting USA! USA!USA! Only one has to say: look again at the video.
Let’s wait and see.
To be honest, I think that typical right wing Americans can’t tell a bicycle kick from a tackle, so they are useless in a discussion about football ruling anyway.
But they would 100% be inordinately proud of winning the World Cup, even if 99% of them are the kind of people who, if a ball rolls up to them, would take it with their hands to return it instead of passing it back with their foot. (the worst insult in Argentinian parlance)
I know everyone’s attention is on the World Cup, but perhaps spare a moment for the US-Brazil women’s friendly. 1-0 to the US on a Brazil own goal, and 8 red cards handed out to Brazil.
4 of the reds were to coaches, and 2 were to players after the final whistle, but still. 8 reds, an OG, and no shots on goal in front of 55,000 home fans is pretty tough.
Interesting that coaches were shown cards. Back before I hung up my whistle, only players and subs could be shown cards (cautioned/sent off). Technical staff were warned and dismissed. Then again, things have changed in the last few years.
