Not for free, of course. But probably cheaper than the website you linked to. They have conections, it is often part of the service of a good hotel. Same goes for theatre, opera and museum time slot tickets.
And now that the WC has been played, I’m sorry to revive the omnibus thread with sad news. The “Mighty Mouse”, Kevin Keegan has died at age 75. I fondly remember him from the days he was playing for HSV, he really was the first pop star in the Bundesliga. An English player in the Bundesliga had been unthinkable before. Everybody loved and everybody in Germany remembers him well. RIP.
Footballers just had the best hair in the 70s…
And the 80’s
Like German Vokuhilamiolibas? ![]()
(that means “vorne kurz, hinten lang, mit Oberlippenbart”, “short in the front, long in the back, with mustache”. Basically a mullet with a stache in English slang. The Lightning Seeds also made fun of it:)
Look at that true image of a Man! today metrosexual players cannot approach that level of Football awesomeness!
Let me have a good look at that very interesting specimen of a footballer. The club is Hansa Rostock (you can tell by the logo), and the sponsor, Möbel Höffner, shows that this is after the German unification. It must be the '90s, if not later. And the aesthetics are so passé for this time, even in footballing circles, that you can only scream: Ein Ossi vor dem Herrn! (An East-German straight out of the text cliché book!). Hansa Rostock kept being relegated and coming back to the first division, this looks like a second league phase. Now they are in the third division, where hope goes to die.
Did I get it more or less right?
Was he famous?
Two-time European Footballer of the Year (forerunner of the Ballon D’Or). A true Superstar.
The England team failing to qualify for the 74 and 78 World Cups with Keegan in his prime is hard to understand. Less teams in the tournament so harder to qualify…but still. He never seems to be in that bracket of best English players and I suspect it’s because of that.
I think you have it basically right, yeah by the logo it’s Hansa Rostock (the Hansekogge), and it rather looks like early 90s than the 80s, and yes it’s the over-the-top stereotype how Wessis imagined early 90s Ossis, but I don’t have a clue who the guy is or what’s his name. I just did a search for “80er Jahre Nationalelf Vokuhilamioliba”, and this was the first hit, although I’m quite sure that the guy never played for the German national team. But i just couldn’t let that picture go unforwarded.
ETA: but note that Hansa played a few seasons in the Bundesliga in the early 90s, so he might be a former Bundesliga player. Forgotten for everything but his fabulous hair.
One more post in this entertaining thread.
My son has been a Sporting KC fan since they moved into their home stadium in 2010. He has also become an overall soccer fan and watches the Premier League game each Sunday morning. We had dinner together a couple of nights ago and he was wearing this t-shirt. I think it sums up the feelings of a multitude of soccer fans across the globe.
