On an airplane: window or aisle seat?

Which do you prefer? I’m just assuming that no one really likes a middle seat best, but if you do, then let’s hear that too, ya weirdo!

I always want a window seat. As a geography-minded person, looking out over the land and everything below is my entertainment. It’s not so thrilling, though, when there’s nothing but clouds or an ocean below.

Of course I know others like to be able to stand up without sliding over other people. And my roommate at school says looking out the window during a flight is boring. I say he’s stupid.

Always aisle. I am pretty tall for a girl and therefore have long legs. If I am seated on the aisle that means I can move my knees around more.

I think I prefer window seats. I get to look out at the scenery, sure, but I also don’t have to pass anyone a drink or get up so they can use the restroom.

This may sound strange, but I like the feeling of being insulated against the other people on the plane. If I’m in the aisle I’m within easy speaking distance of too many people.

Window seats definitely are cramped, though. I’m fairly tall, so sometimes I wish I could stretch out in the aisle.

Window.

Not to look out, but to keep from getting whacked in the shoulder every time someone walks by, or worse, hit by the bev cart. It’s also good protection against the Itty-Bitty Bladder People that are hopping up every 27 minutes to visit the lav.

Aisle. I have the world’s smallest bladder and I HATE to ask people to get up so I can get out.

I prefer the window seat, that way I feel less closed in and have control of the window shade. Everytime I have the middle or aisle seat, the person at the window always closes it. I get claustrophobic when in small spaces with lots of people. That and I always get seated next to some icky person who picks their nose and samples the findings or someone with a BO problem. With the window seat , I can stare out at the clouds and stuff and ignore the people.

Window. Because I hate having to get up for people like Glory.

(And I prefer having a view outside.)

Aisle, so I can get up and stretch or pee whenever I need to without having to worry about asking people to move.

Window, I can usually arrange myself so that I can rest my head against the cabin wall or the window.

I usually sleep on planes so window just so I have something to lean my head on. Otherwise, it really doesn’t matter (unless we’re flying into somewhere I’ve never been before; then I might consider window if it’s daylight out, though I usually pick the middle so Mrs. AG gets the window).

Aisle. Gotta have the leg room and being borderline claustrophobic as I am, the empty space by my elbow helps. There is nothing to see from 35,00 feet that I haven’t already seen, so the window is a waste. The wife prefers the window, but then she likes to sleep during flights, so it all works out.

If you are really fast, you can snag a window seat in the row behind the emergency exit. On a 737, that means no seat in front of you, and you can really stretch out.

I’d forgotten about the advantage of having the wall for a head rest. I guess I haven’t been on any really long, sleep-inducing flights lately. But that is another reason I like the window seat.

Short hops - aisle.

Longer trips - window.

Ok Im one of the weird ones! I like the middle seats, but only if I know the people on either side, it means I can talk to more people.

Windows are nice too though, especially if your flying at night and you can see all the lights when your flying into a place!

It seems the consensus is pretty much this:
People who like to sleep or watch the “scenery” prefer the window seat.
People who have to pee a lot of need leg room prefer the aisle.
And of course no one prefers the middle seat.

I prefer the window because I like to sleep. And I don’t want to get hit by carts or have people elbow me in the aisle seat.

Aisle, always. Easier to move around, get to the john etc. I got trapped in a window seat once. I couldn’t leave to hit the head becasue the 350 lb. drunk in the aisle seat was passed out and immovable. Miserable flight.

Either; I travel first class. :stuck_out_tongue:

Middle seat.

Just kidding!

In all seriousness, it’s a toss-up for me. If I think there will be something interesting to see I like the window. Once I flew from Vegas to L.A. at dusk, and the desert was all aglow in in the setting sun, so if I ever take that flight again I’d want the window. I think for a long flight I prefer the aisle. Or if I’ve drunk lots of coffee and eaten asparagus shortly before the flight.

Aisle.

I don’t want to be on the danged thing in the first place, I sure as hell don’t want to look outside, and when I get where I’m going I want to get off.

Window. I don’t come from affluence, so the first time I was on a plane I was 37. I’ve only flown eight times. I must be a newbie tourist, because I like to look at the view from up there. To see the lush green of the southeast turn into the brown of the desert and the scars on the land left over from the Ice Age are pretty darned impressive if you ask me! Once, we flew over a thunderstorm. Yes, I took pictures. :stuck_out_tongue:
