I like to do that sort of thing in my own head* before* I post - stream-of-consciousness isn’t good message board etiquette, IMO. Yeah, there were a lot of people posting in that thread, but it was all a bit “point&laugh at the gimp”, you know? I suspect part of the motivation of fluiddruid was mercy-killing, really.
I think the consensus is that he’s not a troll. And so what if he is a nutter? Since when does that warrant the closing of the thread? I’ll admit it was going nowhere, but no more than countless other threads that remain open, and that aren’t anywhere near as entertaining.
Agreed. That thread was a big pile of crazy with a few jokes and Dio repeating the same question. What’s the loss? If this had been some half ass pitting of President Bush, Hillary Clinton, or the tooth fairy, noone would be complaining about it’s closure. Why is this one such a big deal?
Because it wasn’t the subject matter. It was just that the mod wasn’t into it, in my opinion, and so whether members enjoyed it be damned. The official reason from Fluid was trolling, but that didn’t hold up to scrutiny. Nutter too, because there are a lot of nutters here. Giraffe then hooked into incoherence, and that has fared better. But incoherence has never hurt Elucidator, and I was trying to determine whether it has to do with the subject matter or the writing style. It is apparently the latter. So as of now, we have it that the thread was closed because the OP does not use clever turns of phrase. MrDibble’s theory is mercy killing, but if that’s the case, it is very selectively applied. I’ve been the brunt of lots of threads that a mod could have killed for that purpose. Meanwhile, a whole new guideline is being established now that posts need to be “coherent”, whatever the fuck that means.
Because of the reason given for closing it. And the fact that countless other seemingly pointless threads trundle on unlocked. This one, for example. Yet this one is locked after 7 posts. Because to her it made no sense.

That’s the thing. She accuses him of trolling, which is clearly not the case, and then says it doesn’t matter if he is trolling. A big load of steaming crap.
I can’t answer for the backpedalling, though I will say I don’t like it. If you make the troll call, stick to it. Throwing in a different call serves only to muddy the waters. Trolling doesn’t seem that far of a stretch to me. Omegaman did little to answer direct questions and seemed in my opinion to be interested in fanning the thread along, or rambling wildly off topic.
And how is it “clearly not the case”? I’m not going to argue either way as I have my opinion (stated above) and others have their own, but all we have to go on is a posters word as to whether or not they are trolling. Since few ever admit it in a clear cut fashion, I think that stating “Omegaman is clearly not a troll” is every bit as foolish as stating “Omegaman is clearly a troll.”
My point (apologies for being unclear) was that if the thread were about something else, the trolling call would likely not be questioned. If someone were to go off on some poorly constructed rambling thread pitting President Bush and spent the thread acting in the same fashion that Omegaman had, likely noone would’ve questioned the troll call or the closing. What makes this thread any better?
As for incoherence, there is a big difference between Elucidators form of incoherence and the stuff Omegaman was peddling. Omegaman started with Satan then wandered in to pockets out, prison bitches, police and firemen, engine repair, etc. Posts were across the map.

Ok, it’s a valid point and you’re right; if someone had been rambling as incoherently about Bush or terrorists then there would be little or no objection to the thread being closed.
I just wish there was some kind of process of natural selection whereby people had the sense to let such threads die quick and natural deaths by not contributing, thus allowing the likes of the Omegaman thread, by virtue of its popularity, the right to live…

“Incoherent?” Bullshit. **Omegaman **writes exactly the way a lot of people talk. Yeah, it sometimes swings from topic to topic but if you’re paying attention you’re not going to get lost.
Quite frankly, I find it pretty amazing that, on a message board whose members regard themselves as “the smartest people in the room,” anyone would have trouble following his semi-stream-of-consciousness messages.
I do understand what you’re saying. Admittedly, Omegaman is not the easiest person to grok, but I actually do understand (at least most of) what he’s saying. He’s like Triskadecamus without the eloquence, or Elucidator without the wit. He writes in metaphors, and that’s familiar to me because of how Jesus teaches. So I understand him just fine. That’s why I asked people what they meant exactly by incoherence.
