"On The Ground"

This turn of phrase is starting to piss me off. It seems the media in the last few years has taken this phrase and made it their own.

I will admit it’s a rather descriptive phrase, short and to the point, but fucking enough already!

Examples:
“We have people on the ground over yonder”
Well, no shit…What about the people in the air?

“We have people on the ground at the space station”
Duh!

"Wherever from we may be reporting, be assured we have “people on the ground”

I think we can fucking gather that…

I haven’t seen this used by the media to refer to themselves, but I haven’t been listening for it, and might have just glossed right over it. I think (semi-WAG) that it properly refers to the military, and is used to draw a distinction between, “Sending in the infantry,” and “Bombing the crap out of stuff from the air.”

I listen to a lot of news but don’t remember that phrase except for ground troops. Maybe I’m tuning stuff out. (Might be a good thing).
