On VERIZON's DSL service: Is the correct forum?

Right now, I am pissed off with Veriozon. The service started on Oct12. I was able to connect once on Oct 12 and once on 13th. Besides that I have alwasys got “Disconnected from the computer you dialed. Error 629”.

I have called up customer service five times so far. EACH time I have been on hold ATLEAST 30 minutes. Once the “technician” was able to help.

On Other occasions the guy has told me “You have been given a ticket. Your DSL service should be back on in 48-72 hours.”

Well, I dont want to go through a 48 hour period of no DSL when I am paying for it everyday!! And I dont want to wait 30 minutes to be told that!!

Does anybody know of any other well-establised Broadband service in the Baltimore city area?
Thanks!

Note to myself: Atleast check for typos in the subject line.

Got similar problems up here in Brooklyn. I was supposed to have service on the 4th, but there seemed to have been a backlog in service due to ‘the strike’. Now I have to wait until the 23rd, they say. I’ll belive it when I see it.

I doubt it’s strictly a strike problem. My co-worker was put on a 30 day waiting list back when Verizon was GTE because they just simply couldn’t keep up with the demand. That’s been one of the main problems with DSL providers, the networks can’t handle the number of subscribers. So I plan to wait a while longer until there are more providers to help ease the strain before I sign up with anybody.

Okay kids, one more time, and this time, let’s all sing together:

DSL is new,
DSL is not for you,
If you want it to
Be there all the time.

New technology
Sometimes will just not be
100% reliable
SO GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD.

Read your contract.

Verizon doesn’t have a good rep. I think it was ZDNet holding them up as an example of what goes wrong.

ITS BACK!!!

It DID take between 48-72 hours as they said…

I would LOVE to find out what went wrong and what they did to get it back on line; but I am in no mood to be put on hold for another 30 minutes…

lurkernomore: Can you point me to the report you mentioned? All I could find was some complaining that the service took ages to start. Nothing about what happens AFTER that. (My starting date was Oct 12. I tried at 2:45AM and connected!! So no problem there)

Mr. Cynical: So you still use a 14.4K?
