Once the FLDS DNA tests are done, how do they match 437 kids to hundreds of adults?

Per the 437 FLDS kids, how do they match such a large group to each other? In DNA testing I would imagine the testing subset to determine paternity is usually much, much smaller. How would this process actually work for such large group?

Is standard DNA matching software able to handle such a large matrix?

The matrix isn’t that large. Mainly, they are going to want to match the kids with the fathers to see if any of them have been impregnated by their own fathers. Since men get kicked out regularly, and the women and kids get assigned to other men, sometimes true paternity gets lost in the shuffle-- especially if the kids are young and never told who their real fathers are.

If there has been lots of inbreeding, this could be a little more difficult, but I don’t see too many problems cropping up.

I thought this was to determine paternity and maternity rights. Is it really primarily about searching for incest? They’re literate humans, not animals, they can’t be that oblivious to their own heredity.

This is going to be very tricky because there has been a lot of inbreeding. In fact, there’s a genetic defect for which the majority of the cases in the world are found in the FLDS communities.

Basically, there’s only a few genetic lines, maybe half a dozen family names among these people.

I bet, in some cases, they will find that a 15 year old child, is the mother of a 2 year old. That would do a lot to enhance the case against pedophiles.

Even if they know, they may not cooperate with the authorities. I don’t think the cops trust them to be telling who is the father/mother of whom.

When I read that, the first thing that sprang to mind was the bizarre hair styles.

Each and every child is 50% composed of its mother’s and father’s DNA, with the exception of whatever mutations have occurred in the reproductive process. It shouldn’t be that hard.

Whereas the defect actually

Which may in turn lead to bizarre hairstyles, it is true.
