Once Upon A Time [edited title]

So she dropped everything and went posthaste to the ‘Beast’s’ castle to be a caretaker because she wanted to, what, do something, be something important, a hero? That sounded silly and something made up real quick to explain her action. But I LOVED this episode, I have always loved Emilie D. and I found her interactions with my big crush Rumplestiltskin absolutely enthralling.

It was shown at the end that “Belle” (Storybrooke name not known) is in the hospital basement .

I think Henry said that Mr. Gold was worse than his mom. It was Emma standing up to Gold that won her the sheriff’s job because nobody likes him in Storybrooke. Yet I have nothing but sympathy for him. It’s not an I love to hate him thing. I genuinely enjoy his character. He’s probably the most complicated person on the show, both worlds.

I skimmed over a few pages in the middle so perhaps I’ve missed some relevant discussion, but does it strike anyone else as odd that Gold treats Regina as a genuine threat — when he can get her to do anything he wants as long as he says “please”? Could he just say “please give me the teacup”? Wouldn’t she have to comply? Further, I wonder if he could tell her to please jump off the tallest building in Storybrooke, or please resign her mayorship, or something like that.

I did like the reference to Rumplestiltskin’s name having some power, an integral part of his story the show has heretofore ignored.

For devil’s advocation: Emma can (and presumably will) break the curse, but I suspect there’s a decent chance the true-love’s-kiss thing is a red herring. After all, everyone in the town is cursed, not specifically Emma; it isn’t like she’s been put into a coma or turned into some kind of Joker-like supervillain.

Really? How did I miss that? At what point was that?

It figures, I deleted it from my DVR after watching, and now I want to rewatch it.

I missed this week’s episode, can anybody sum it up for me, please?

:smack: Yes, of course. Not sure why I forgot that…

In Storybrooke, Mr. Gold takes a mans truck after he is unable to pay his debt. As revenge, the man burgles Gold’s house. Emma recovers most of the loot. Gold kidnaps the man and beats him because a cherished item is still missing. Emma arrests him for the beating/kidnapping.

In HEAL, Rumple saves a town from being sacked in exchange for a woman named Belle to be his servant(i.e. “Beauty and the Beast.”) Belle falls in love with him. Rumple gives her her freedom, but the Queen sends Belle back to Rumple. Belle kisses Rumple and it starts to turn him back to normal. Rumple cant accept that she really loves him. He tries to say that he just doesn’t want to give up his power. He sends Belle away again. The Queen tells Rumple Belle committed suicide.

The Mayor gets a jailhouse confession from Gold that he knows he’s Rumplestiltskin in exchange for the cherished item- a chipped teacup, a memento from his days with Belle. The end has the Mayor visit Belle, alive, in a secret cell below the Storybrooke hospital.

The B story involves Valentines. There’s a girls’ night out. Cinderella gets engaged. David gets two cards and gives Mary Margaret the one meant for his wife.

Scene with Belle is in the last 3 minutes

Did you miss the beginning? She dropped everything and went posthaste to the “Beast”'s castle to be a caretaker because that was how she could save her village and that’s what made her a hero.

Yes, I neglected to mention I did miss the beginning, only watched it in bits and pieces. Thank you.

this is another episode where teh second viewing is so much better… somehow in the first viewing I missed Rumplestiltskin watching out the window wondering if Belle would return and his delite when she did.

So - will the Kiss that breaks the curse be between Rump and Belle? Rump and the Queen?

So many possibilities…

I thought Emilie de Ravin was great as Belle. The chipped teacup was a bit too on the nose, but other than that I liked this take on the Beauty and the Beast story.

So we’ve had Mr. Widmore and now Claire. I wonder what other LOSTies will show up.

Who’s Claire? Is that a character from Lost? Emilie de Ravin, the actress who played Belle, was Claire in Lost? Think I put it together. But, just wanted to write it down in case anyone else is as dumb as I am.

Anyway. Excellent episode. Fun story from the past, that melded well with the present day. They were a little bit heavy handed in helping Snow White figure out that her relationship with Charming wasn’t perfect (and the giving the wrong card was super stupid. ) but, it brought the story into a more interesting place. I don’t think I would enjoy episode after episode watching them talk to each other from table to table.

Before this episode I don’t think I realized that Rumplestilskin and the Queen were foes. I figured that Rumple existed in the same universe and knew of the queen, and she of him, but their paths very rarely crossed. This episode made it clear that not only does he remember who he is, but he remembers everyone else and why they owe what they owe and that he and the Queen were adversaries. She jealous of his power.

This episode made me wish that Emma would use modern technology to get an upper hand. For instance, having a tape recorder running as she went off with Henry for ice cream would have been pretty clever.

Man, that scene with Belle in the cell was pretty intense. Especially for this show that doesn’t usually have stuff quite this dark. (Speaking of dark. They might have made it look like Rumple has a bit of a heart in this episode. But, they didn’t neglect to show that he’s also pretty bad ass. Just turned that hero from Belle’s town into a rose. And, watched as she snipped that rose into pieces.)
Anyone see the One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest type guy mopping up as the mayor walked buy in the hospital? That was pretty funny.

Lana Parilla, aka The Evil Queen, was in one episode of Lost, as one of the Others in the underwater Looking Glass hatch. Charlie and Desmond went there to use the radio.

Yes! At first, when the mayor was talking to the secret admitting nurse down in the basement, it crossed my mind that she was being made up (especially in her hairstyle) to look like Nurse Nurse Ratched. And then we saw the Chief mopping up. It was so blatant, I was wondering if it was just a throwaway gag, or if they were actually going to somehow try folding in Cuckoo’s Nest into the storyline somehow.

I thought it was too bad that they eradicated the Beast completely from the Beauty and the Beast storyline, although I guess there are enough prince/princess pairs running around Storybrooke already.

I rolled my eyes at the chipped cup so hard I thought I’d sprain one. The writers do have a delightful time working in Disney references. Belle’s yellow gown and blue dress/white blouse ensemble were pretty much straight out of the movie too.

Not my favorite episode, but I’m still interested in seeing where the main story is going.

Oh, wow, I didn’t realize she was one of them. Cool!
