Unless I’m mistaken there’s no current thread for this show (just one for Wonderland), if I’m wrong, open up a portal and send me to Neverland.
Anyway, thoughts on last night’s (10/13) episode
Anyone notice Thor’s hammer in the Dark One’s cupboard when Neil was looking for a way to open a portal? Guess he’s not worthy to lift it or he could’ve used that for interdimensional travel.
Robin Hood being the tattoed man Tinkerbell was trying to set Regina up with was way too obvious. As was Henry shooting at Pan and Pan expecting it.
Blue fairy is kinda a bitch.
If Charming actually dies from his wound, I’ll eat my hat.
Thoughts on season so far…
Seems to be really dragging things out. Have they really done much of ANYTHING since getting to Neverland except walk around and getting nowhere?
Well it’s only the third episode and I think they’re making decent progress.
I was thinking that Pan turned into a shadow from time to time, but after Baelfire/Neal caught a ride I realized that it was Pan’s shadow and it has a mind of its own.
Finally, I hate how shows will have actors for an arc, and when their part is over, they’re abruptly killed, like Tamara and Greg. If I was Gold, when I got to the Island and ran into Tamara I would have found out if she had more magic suppressors or if she knew how to make any to use against Pan.
What was Mulan running back to Aurora to tell her? I think we’re suppose to think she’s fallen in love with her, but why would she be running back to tell her that when Aurora clearly loves Phillip?
It was clear she was in love with Aurora. I thought she loved Phillip originally. So either she’s bi and went from loving one to the other, or she loved Aurora the whole time, even though it was clear Aurora loves Phillip. A little confusing.
I was kind of surprised at how bitchy the Blue Fairy was as well. There must be some story line to it later on. I totally didn’t see the whole Henry shooting Pan thing, but then, I don’t watch a lot of fighting type movies, so I’m not really up on the cliches of that sort.
I completely missed Thor’s hammer.
And last but not least, I didn’t realize that the guy with the Lion tattoo was actually Robin Hood, I thought it was just one of his Merry Men (see my thread about not being able to tell characters apart some times :D). It’s too bad, because him being “merely” a Merry Man would be more interesting huh?
I got more of a vibe that she was gonna tell Aurora that she was in love with Phillip, sort of an honor thing “I want your man, but I’m not gonna go behind your back to get him, consider this fair warning”
Lately when there’s a show I like I keep waiting for it to disappoint me, but so far this season is pretty good.
Oh sure, there’s some predictability like Henry hearing the music, because after all, in a drama things have to get worse before they get better. But there was a surprise in Neil turning on Gold, which is understandable though. And I’m curious to hear about Gold’s and Pan’s past.
Every time I hear Gold or Hook or someone warn that Pan is too powerful or something similar, I kinda roll my eyes. Sure, all these Disney characters have expanded lives, with secrets and interactions beyond anything we’ve ever been shown before, but c’MON! Gold/Rumpelstilskin/The Dark One and Regina/The Evil Queen were held up as these Big Bads with uber-powerful magic. Then a pirate with a single hand is now a villain supposedly on their level (citing the fact that he’s not dead by now).
Now I’m being told to believe, so far on faith, that Peter frickin’ PAN has enough power (of whatever type) to make both Gold and Hook step lightly, looking over their shoulders the whole time. I’m sure it will all be revealed in due time (I hope); I think I’m seeing some of it already. But it’s a lot to swallow, that I’m supposed to take Pan seriously as the Big Bad who’s more powerful and dangerous than the Big Bads we’ve already been shown.
Still, I am entertained by the show, so it’s not like I’m hatewatching.
I got the feeling that it’s similar to the Wizard of Oz, the “Big Baddies” have the most power in their areas - so in Neverland, Pan is the Queen Bee and in other areas, it would be different…
Well, the other Big Baddies have had their Achilles heels’ - love. Regina’s love for Henry and for her stable boy. Rumple’s love for Bae and Belle. Peter is an eternal teenager (older than Dick Clark!) and we all know how mean teens can be. And he doesn’t appear to love anyone, even his own lost boys. He stays on Neverland because there, he does have absolute power.
I think it’s implied that Pan feels unloved and unwanted, and so he surrounds himself with those like him. And I think his Achilles heel is belief. He probably feeds off of it. I have a feeling that with all this talk of belief saving magic then if, let’s say, the Lost Boys turn against him and stop believing it will probably at least weaken him. Belief in Tinker Bell will probably make her a fairy again.
One thing that could probably have helped the Charming family is training Emma in her powers. Being the child of true love I kept thinking that Emma would turn out to be one of the most powerful magic users ever, yet she’s only barely scratched the surface and the writers don’t seem interested in exploring her potential.
My problem with Pan is more straightforward - even at Henry’s age, I’d have a problem with a guy who orchestrated my kidnapping and is holding me prisoner telling me repeatedly how I’m free, thanks to him. As Henry saw when he helped a Lost Boy try to escape, you’re free in Neverland - free to do what Pan tells you for eternity. Hell, with parents you can at least grow up and leave someday.
I can maybe let him slide on the question no one seems to be asking - why? Everyone wants Henry back, but Pan has been searching for him for hundreds of years (subjective time) and everyone seems content to accept Pan wants “The Truest Believer.” Pretty title, but why - what’s in it for him? Magic back to all the realms is nice and all, but - as posted above - Pan is swimming in magic mojo already. If Regina or Rumplestilstkin wanted to return magic to all the realms, everyone would question it. Pan’s readily acknowledged as being worse, but no one seems interested in his motives.
It can’t be brushed off with “we just want our child/grandchild back” because the lengths Pan has gone to indicate that Henry is valuable in a huge way to dark powers, so it’s logical to assume someone else will come looking even if they retrieve him from Pan.
So, it looks like next week the whole Neverland arc will conclude. Overall I’d give it a C, maybe C+. It’s alright, but not great (in my opinion).
Last week the way Rumplestiltskin said that the only way Pan could die is if he died, I wondered if maybe their lives are linked somehow. Probably not though.
Also, it seems that, with the exception of Pan’s shadow ripping out Greg’s shadow, Pan himself never attacks anyone. I mean, once he had Henry believing that his parents were dead, why not just kill them instead of having them play games?
