One hell of a finale (?), a rescue tale MMP

Happy Belated Birthday, taxi! I hope it was a good day; or at least a good evening that included pampering from KeithT.

I am the only one here today and all next week. Oh, and I get to take my computer home so I can queue up ad hocs to run reports on Monday. 35 REPORTS JUST FOR MONDAY!! I won’t get them all done, but I don’t care. It’s an impossibility. I’ll basically spend all week doing everyone else’s work, but won’t get to do any of mine. Tell me how productive that is…

Sigh…

Yesterday, I found out I didn’t make the list for the job I applied for last month. I’m not devastated or anything; but I am a little disappointed. I know I’m qualified, it’s the same kind of shop as I’m in now so I have the requisite requirements. All it means is that I didn’t use the right words on my Resumix. I should have gone and looked at the actual position description in the system.

I guess it means that one wasn’t meant to be. Hopefully, something will come along again soon.

I have soooooo much to do before tomorrow. After work, I have stop at home, drop off my laptop, drive to the mall, finish up the shopping, come home, steam clean and do regular cleaning, and wrap presents. That’s just tonight.

Tomorrow, I need to dash out to the butcher and grocery stores and pick up the fixings for Christmas Day dinner.

This is the least prepared that I’ve been in years. I just found it so hard to get into the holiday spirit this year. I feel badly about that, but I can’t change it.

Well, I should get back to work. I’ve already been productive today, but I have a lot more to do and I want to cut out just a little early today.

Belated happies, Taxi!

We went to the pub last night and then had cocktails when we got back home. Consequently I had a bit of a fuzzy head this morning when I got up. Headed into town to do some errands and stopped at the Chinese buffet for lunch as that seemed like a very good idea. Errands run, back home with a cup of tea and now I’m running a bath. Dinner tonight is going to be leftover chilli from yesterday so no cooking required unless I decide I want rice with it.

I have one gift left to wrap so I suppose I should get on with that fairly soon.

If you could squeeze it in amongst your very busy lives, I’d appreciate some good thoughts for my recently-married friends. The husband’s middle son (who’s in his early 20s and has an alcohol problem) is in hospital on a ventilator, I don’t know what happened to him but he’s got some serious brain swelling going on and things are not looking good. Simon obviously has his troubles, but he’s never been this bad.

Spuds, can’t you spend the time doing your work first and just dipping into other stuff if you really need to?

I wish, **BooFae. **Unfortunately, the stuff that needs to be covered for my co-workers are various weekly and daily report that MUST.NEVER.STOP or the world will come to a crashing halt.

These stupid reports are a major reason I want out of here. Many of them are not necessary because the information they contain is already available on other reports or dashboards. They were created because people are too lazy to use a fucking filter key on a column heading.:rolleyes: This is assinine.

Whatever, the first time someone says something to me about what I haven’t accomplished, I will show them the list of stuff THAT MUST NEVER STOP BEING PRODUCED ELEVENTY!!! and tell them I can cut the bullshit reports, or I can do regular work. If they choose regular work, they don’t don’t get reports THAT MUST NEVER STOP BEING PRODUCED!!!. Period, end of story. Actually, I’ve done that. Guess what…they want the reports so they can bitch and moan and then “data shop” because the numbers make them look bad. Yeah, like we purposely manipulate numbers to make them look bad.

Bah…humbug.

Bobbio, I’m glad the gig is a go! I really am happy for you.

Hi!! We arrived about 4 this morning, slept a little, and now we’re zombie-ing thru the day. It’s nice and mild, but cold is coming to Ocala on Sunday night…

Belated Happy taxiday!!
That’s all I’ve got. Maybe I’ll check in later.

MWAH!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. It was only an ok day. Right after lunch I got stomach pains. Nothing was wrong, just I didn’t feel good for the rest of the day. Then around 3, someone on a different team decided we had to do another project, related to but not the same as the one that’s been a huge PITA for the last couple weeks. And it had to go out before I left. But I didn’t get the file I needed to start until 4:57. I made it out about 5:30, but I wasn’t very happy. The stomach issue was the kind where I was still hungry despite the discomfort so we still went out to the nice pizza place. And that was good, but then we went home and I curled up in a ball on the sofa. :frowning:

Today I’m fine, but I feel like I spend more time with stomach issue, back pain, or both than not. And this was my 32nd birthday so it’s not like I really should be dealing with chronic health issues yet. :frowning: :frowning:

Sorry about the job, taters. Hopefully something else comes along soon. I’m not really prepared either. I’ve got all of my presents, but I still need to wrap, and I discovered this morning that I can’t find the wrapping paper that I put away before the cleaning crew came on Monday. I used it last Friday, but now it’s gone somewhere. Great. And I still have to grocery shop. And I have very much not been in to doing xmas cards. I’ve been sending cards in reply to those that I receive, but up until last year, I’d do them on Thanksgiving weekend and get them out early, and I really enjoyed the process. Last year and this I’ve just been feeling bah humbug about the whole thing.

Good thoughts headed to Simon’s family, BooFae.

Have fun with the niece and nephew around, gt. If/when the niece arrives.

Yay for being back online gotti.

Good luck with the last couple days of shopping before xmas, doggio! And with the car issues.

OK, I’d better get a little more work done before lunch. But I’m hungry! [\whine]

So, um some bright news for a change. Saw the bone doc, got a walking cast which means no more stinking crutches! I can climb stairs, walk about and generally take care of myself, albeit a bit more slowly than usual. But still…

I keep this for four weeks, then it gets sawed off and I’m good as new! He said the break is clean but in a good place for me being able to support weight on it while it’s held still by the cast.

THEN, since part of my birthday present from Ms Bus Wife was going to be a gift card from Barnes and Noble, we just went there. She gave me carte blanche, bought a butt load of books herself and we spent an obscene amount of pesos on books. Though I think any money spent on a good book is ok, and not obscene.

Later this afternoon, BusKid and Future Bus Kid in law start driving from Tiny Pebble to his folks house in central IL to spend the Eve there, then here late tomorrow night. Drive safe kids!

Crud.

Making a chocolate bundt cake. Misread the recipe. Added 3/4 pound of butter, 3/4 stick of butter.

Well… we’ll see! It’s almost a pound cake, right?

:smack:

Buttery bundt cake. MMMMMMM…

Sorry about the job Taters. This just means there’s a better one a’waitin’.

BooFae prayers and good thoughts headed out to Simon.

Yay for onlineness gotti!

Hope you’re feelin’ better taxi!

Yay for walkin’ cast BusDude!

Yay for successful phone reboot Rebo!

Yay for arrivin’ in one piece MOOOOOOM!

YPWife is havin’ a baby girl. Guesses were like three to one in favor of a girl because we decided YP needed to be wrapped around a little finger.

I’ve been feeling pretty shitty all day, but since Boss-who-must-sign-hours threatened with having me kicked out if I go home early on grounds of being sick and do not produce a doctor’s note (I understand that is not even legal, not for missing less than two days), I held myself with pins until quit o’clock.

I drove (which I probably shouldn’t have done) but parked the car outside (which consisted of sliding in beside the sidewalk and leaving about a foot’s distance to it) rather than have to manoeuver into the garage. As I was sitting there grabbing my stuff, I got a call from Niceboss to call Bosswhogivesstrangeorders, but I didn’t have B’s phone number or something to write on, so N kindly sent me B’s number in an SMS. What B had to say was, basically, “come back to work until this mess we’ve created gets solved”, so I called a taxi, grabbed a yoghurt and came back. Me and the Other Peon went to speak with our Gatekeeper, agreed with him on a hopefully-approvable solution and did our part about it; it’s now in post-Gatekeeper checking. Bleagh, blurf and specially bollocks, if y’all ask me.
Taxi, sorry you had a bad day, and it’s too early in the holidays to have a bad tummy.

Soapy, is that supposed to be “3/4 pound” instead of “3/4 stick”? It sounds like a very… mellow cake will be had. Fluid. Or something. I can’t come up with the right word, I hate when that happens. In any case, so long as it doesn’t all melt down it’s all good… maybe if it’s liquidy enough you can use it as frosting for your next cake?

Boo, good-health wishes sent your friends’ way.

gotti, so the 'puters of IT folk still die, but y’all know how to rez them? That’s a neat skill to have!

MBG, remember it’s a walking cast, not a running cast, and that you got a woman who will turn you into choricitos if she catches you running after other girls, cast or no cast. Behave, eh?

Yeah- was supposed to be 3/4 stick. I added 3/4 pound (thee sticks…).

Oy. Texture is a bit off. I don’t think I’m bringing it tonight. Darn. Now I have to go make something else.

BooFae, praying for your friend’s son. Keep us updated.

taxi, I’m sorry your birthday wasn’t fun. :frowning:

I went to the supermarket today. This Was A Mistake. You’d think we were about to have a famine. I’m not shopping again until the 27th.

Sorry you had to work while you were sick, Nava. That sucks.

Sorry about the cake, Soapy. That probably wouldn’t work too well. Those things happen.

I had presents shipped to work so I brought in wrapping paper today and am trying to wrap presents between work tasks. KT’s home today and tomorrow so it really is the best place to do it.

For the knitters out there, check this out from about the third picture on down.

I don’t want to know what the grocery store is like, LiLi. I still have to go there tomorrow. Yippee.

Sorry 'bout the sucky work day Nava. May all those who made you suffer, suffer nasty painful papercuts.

I ain’t goin’ nowhere near a grocery sto’ nohow for nuttin’ tomorrow. That’d be as bad as goin’ to  Wally*World  or  the maul !

I have to go to both the MAUL and the grocery store and the butcher shop.

Mall today, groceries tomorrow; unless I get out of the mall early enough to take care of the groceries too.

Anway, I’m out the door in eight minuten. See you on my home computer!

koff

ah - that helped a little

I’ve wanted to change my name since like middle school and I had the money. I’m hoping to travel next year and would like my own name to be on my passport. Just have to wait a few more weeks.

Got $370 today, for working three days. I was afraid Jake was going to make a bigger deal over not being able to work on it in CorelDraw, but since he insists on using a version from 2002 I wasn’t go to put up with it. And I know he’s going to have me do some package design later.

I’m trying to resist the temptation to take a hundred for fun money. I’m already planning on spending fifty to get my hair cut.

You made something with too much butter?

Yum. Bring me some!

Popcorn, cookies and grapes are a healthy dindin. There’s good for me stuff in there somewhere. I am totally convinced of that.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

cookies have wheat and eggs and milk - that’s good - and popcorn & grapes add fiber.

BTW - Baryshnikov is straight*
