I remember hearing this many, many years ago. Could someone complete it (I believe it went to 10), and does anyone know the origin?
The history of it can be found on the Jerry Lewis Museum : Fan Club : Announcer Test
**
One hen
Two ducks
Three squawking geese
Four limerick oysters
Five corpulent porpoises
Six pair of Don Alversos tweezers
Seven thousand Macedonians in full battle array
Eight brass monkeys from the ancient sacred crypts of Egypt
Nine apathetic, sympathetic, diabetic, old men on roller skates with a marked propensity towards procrastination and sloth
Ten lyrical, spherical diabolical denizens of the deep who hall stall around the corner of the quo of the quay of the quivery, all at the same time. **
I remember my father reciting this just recently as an illustration of learning something entirely useless 40 years ago and still remembering it to this day.
Fascintating, but what are a ‘quo’ and a ‘quivery’?
Not in any of my dictionaries.
