One less genocidial egomaniac ... Milosevic is dead.

Slobodan Milosevic: Europe’s answer to Idi Amin (but with better culinary sense).

And forget the pineapples, this guy needs a jalapeno suppository STAT.

I dunno, Idi was rumored to mix up one heck of a BBQ sauce.
And he was a much snappier dresser.

Jalapeno eyewash, if you please.

Agreed, except when it involves cricket.

Goddammit! Why can I never remember that simple little fact?!!? Heartfelt apologies.

Though my wife be adventurous enough to actually want to be part of a harem. Of course, since I’ll be dead I won’t reap any benefits from it. Bastard. :stuck_out_tongue:

Preach it, brother!

As for Milosevic, there’s a New Model Army lyric I like dragging out on such occasions:
“I believe in Justice, I believe in vengeance, I believe in getting the bastard!”

Although right now it looks like unintentional suicide as he was possibly secretly taking medication to make his other meds ineffective, so he could go to Russia, apparently.

I didn’t say that.

Nicaraguan Sandinistas were also pushing hardline ideological oppression for a decade, plunged their country into civil war, encountered growing external pressure, particularly from US (many thanks to St. Ronnie!) and finally allowed elections that they were confident they could control. Now they are legitimate opposition party. Why nobody clamoring for their heads now?

Allowing elections in Communist or Fascist countries deserves a huge credit. Remember, there could be machine guns detachments and streets full of blood.

By what means?

An excellent NY Times article on his death (NY Times requires free registration).

From the article:

Good riddance. Rot in hell, Slobo.

You keep getting the “details” of your statements slightly off, (about one Astronomical Unit, usually).

The Sandanista civil war was the one in which they took power. Once they were in power, the “civil war” was simply a matter of the U.S. funding the old, repressive Somosista National Guard to go back in and reconquer the country.

The Sandanistas held elections twice, on schedule, without pressure. The pressure on the already scheduled elections was the external interference that the U.S. imposed that helped Ortega win the first one by “standing up” to the U.S. and helped Chamorro win the second one because the voters thought that the U.S. would call off its dogs if Ortega was ousted.

“St. Ronnie” did nothing in Nicaragua but needlessly prolong a civil war that had been winding down by an additional 8 - 10 years, provide weapons to Iran, provide funds to Middle Eastern terrorists, and provide those same M.E. terrorists with a financial incentive to kidnap Americans. Good job, Ronnie.

Contortionists of the world, unite!

I read that as “Rot in Soho,” for some reason.

What has that poor jalapeño done to you, eh?

If Slobo goes to Hell, can we also send his apologists and defenders there?

Why does it all sound so familiar?

So what’s your point? That Slobbo wasn’t the only psycho mudering bastard in the world? Are you reaching for some sort of equivalence? My only regret is that Slobbo killed himself through stupidity - he was self prescribing drugs in order to play sick and get to Russia. I would have preferred that he swing from a rope or slowly die in agony from a horrible disease. He was no damn good, and no amount of denial, spinning or outright lying will change that one bit.

From everything I read Slobo was a genocidal sociopath.

However, I have heard conflicting reports on Kosovo. That is, the ethnic Albanians who moved there are a recent development and that they don’t have a particularly solid claim on the area.

Not trying in any way shape of form to defend Slobo but just curious if I am way off base on Kosovo.

I thnk I’m starting to like you
