Manmade - that Southeast Asian temple carved entirely out of rock, looking like something out of a Dr Seuss illustration (I forget what its name is) with statues and entranceways carved everywhere into a cliff-like living rock.
Natural - the mountain trail that I saw near the Tennessee/SC/GA border, where there was a trail that skirted around the mountain that lead to a monolith-looking rock in which there was dug a cave (probably for mining purposes.) The path to the park was very winding and above it you could see a city and a manmade dam. I can’t remember the name of that either, and unfortunately it describes probably 12 different places.
I’ve been to Baalbeck. Before the wars. It was quite impressive. I was surprised to see on your link to the tours that are offered. I had thought the Bekaa Valley was in the hands of Syriana insurgents and would be unsafe for Westerners. Any straight dope on that?
**Philster ** stole my thunder with The Grand Canyon (and its inverse) the Pyramids.
Too old? A guy I know went to Machu Picchu at age 80. After recovering from a massive stroke. He had his nephew along and is a seasoned world traveler and stuff, but he did it. They made Angkor Wat that same year. Last I heard, they were on the Queen Mary 2.
