One meal a day - how bad is it really?

Okay, I know it’s not very good for maintaining my figure. But how bad is it?

My lifestyle - a student without a lot of free time - prevents me from eating the ideal large number of small meals a day, so I wolf down my caloric quota in one or two larger meals. Besides, I am obsessive about dental hygeine, and I’d sooner go to Nome to streak in the middle January than brush my teeth six times a day, lest my breath kick like a mule.

Does taking my calories in such large chunks at a time really have that big of an impact on my basal metabolic rate?

As long as you maintain an active lifestyle that provides sufficient exercise to balance your caloric intake there is nothing “bad” about eating just one or two meals a day.

Well, I’ll say this, I did just that for about 10 years and was always looking good and in shape. Now I eat the three “meals” a day and feel like a big, fat pig. I definately need to lose 20 pounds or so.

One meal a day probably isn’t the best for blood pressure and such, but, if you’re on the younger side it shouldn’t be a problem. If you’re 40 years old, doing it is probably asking for a heart attack.

On the other hand, what do “they” say; “it’s better to look good than to feel good”.

I have heard that if you go more than 10 hours without food your body enters starvation mode. Your body stores all that it can as fat. For the average person I guess this isn’t life or death, but if you are trying to get down to 8% BF it is not good.

I do this quite often. Anecdotally speaking only, it seems to increase the risk of constipation.

Your body adapts very quickly to any mode you chose.

I can’t imagine if you are disease free(ie diabetes etc) that it would make a difference.

I eat one big meal at lunch. (basically I work at a hotel so it’s free and saves money)

Then a small meal at night.

In terms of getting fat, it is calories that count, not when you eat them. Of course some people feel if they don’t eat three meals they are starving and eat MORE.

But the fact is they are eating more.

I found how many people don’t realize how LITTLE food you really need if you are not active.

One thing I’ll add is that if you want to keep in shape, you need to eat something for breakfast, just to give your metabolism a kickstart.

i have done searches on gall bladder problems. it seems that 1meal/day can increase chance of gall bladder problems
