One million without power in Ohio?

We just had wind here. Lots of wind. My power flickered once, when a tree down the street fell across the street in order to hit the power lines there. I lost a very nice looking maple tree that blocked most of the road. A couple of neighbors came over with chain saws and we had the road cleared before the police showed up to close off the block with the tree across the power lines. Now my front yard has a huge pile of branches waiting for the town to get around to picking them up.

The local radio station lost their transmitting tower. Since it has survived 60 mph winds before, they think it was blowing a bit harder than that.

Just north of Lok, we didn’t have any major wind at all and not a whole lot of rain. Lost a few branches from our trees but nothing major. Guess we must have been in the four counties not affected.

What I wish I could figure out is why, at the height of the storm, there were helicopters flying overhead. And I don’t think they were medical choppers going to the hospital…they were huge and in no apparent hurry. I didn’t think they could fly in that kind of weather.

A lot of my town (very small, north of Kittenblue, on Lake Erie) has been without power since Sunday night. And we didn’t have cable (and therefore no internet) for two days. But we have power! We are very lucky.

On Monday morning, before dawn, someone was walking up and down our street shining a big light up at the wires. I don’t know what that was about.

Had very high winds here, but no rain. Our lights flickered a few times, but we never lost power, unlike a lot of people around here.

I’m really glad I had the big hollow tree in our yard cut down last month.

Still no power at my sister’s house.

My brother (Kilvert’s Pagan) lost power at his place in Southern Indiana Thanks to Ike. Stated that the reason that it’s going to take a while to get it back was because the utility company sent crews south to Texas in advance of Ike to help out THERE.

Oops.

We’re in Perry County and we went 48 hours + without power. Things are slowly getting back to normal.

If I were meant to camp, I would have been born in a tent.

We’re one of the ones in Columbus still without power. I’ve seen one map that says we’ll get it back today, and one Saturday. sigh

We managed to salvage a cooler full of food from our fridge and have been keeping it fed with ice, but most of our fridge and freezer was a total loss.

We’re also still without power. Over 72 hours now. Our neighborhood appears to have been restored, with the exception of 11 houses, of which we’re in the center of. I called AEP earlier and was told, “your power is already on.” When I explained that no, it most certainly was not, the reply was “I guess we missed you - hopefully Saturday.”

Wonderful.

Drain Bead, it sounds like it may be too late for this, but we have a lot of extra freezer space and would be happy to loan it for the duration. You can email me through my profile if you want. We’re located near Easton Town Center.

My mom in southeastern Ohio still doesn’t have her power back, either. I consider us to have been very lucky, as we didn’t lose power at all, even though a lot of nearby businesses did.

Also checking in from Columbus. The night of the big windstorm, power flickered off and on at home but we never actually lost power for more than a second or two. Work, on the other hand, is a different story. We’ve been operating off of our backup generator since Sunday afternoon here, with AEP’s website estimating we won’t have power back until Saturday. This is, not surprisingly, annoying the crap out of half of my pharmacy’s customers. And my staff. And me. :stuck_out_tongue:

It occurred to my employer today that there was something that might make people without power feel less awful. Everyone gets to use the wellness center for free for showers and such until they have power.

Also, the place where I get my hair cut is offering free shampoo and dry. They wash, you dry. It’s an awesome place.

I am in Columbus apartment hunting because my fiancee starts a job on the 29th! Hopefully the places I visit have power. We drove in and around Bexley this evening looking at neighborhoods, and it appears my friend who is back on is very lucky. There are still many traffic lights out north and east of here.

I hope this goes well so I can relax and enjoy my first CABS (boardgaming) meeting on Friday

It’s extremely patchy down here. The people across the street from me are still without power–the only people in the village without it. But it seems a lot of progress was made in the last 12 hours.

My sister’s power was back about 3 hours ago.

My mother is still without power and slept over last night. She has a CPAP which she can’t use because of the lack of power but she has back up oxygen tanks but that is just not the same.

She has been stressed due to the lack of power and left the tank on by accident so when she went to use it last night she freaked out.

I gathered up her crap, her and her dog and brought them to my house. I hope at least she is getting a good night sleep.

There is a downed line that runs to her building and the electric company is aware of it but could not give her a time frame on the repairs. It is frustrating to say the least.

It is hard enough dealing with no power but when you have medical issues that require power it puts a lot of stress on her which in turn just aggravate the medical issues even more. I hope they get is fixed today. At least the weather is good.

Last night our power came on for about fifteen seconds, then went back off again. cry

Also Columbus, Ohio checking in. Near-downtown resident in Old Town East.

Power went out on Sunday and came back up yesterday afternoon - Just over 3 days without power. I’ve got a fair amount of wind damage to my roof. More significant damage came from a large tree that fell into my house and property.

It is a city tree and they’ve told me they will remove it but they cannot give an estimate on when that will be. Insurance company said it may be up to 2 weeks before they can get a claims adjuster on site to survey my damage to the house and the rest of the property.
