One of my cats is broken (funny, not sad)

So, I have four cats (pics in a later post, if I can find the pics at all). I have two orange tabby boys, a blue grey girl, and a seal point Siamese girl. And I got a laser pointer for Xmas. It’s not that I wanted a laser pointer for me, I wanted it for the cats.

The two younger, very active cats enjoy the laser pointer, which I expected. The older orange boy REALLY likes it. He doesn’t play much, as a general rule, but I guess he was conserving energy in case he needed to chase a red dot of light. He’s rather stout, but muscular, and usually can be spotted lounging in or around someone, hoping to get petted. But he certainly loves chasing that dot.

The Siamese girl, though…is not interested in playing with the laser. She’ll play with a feather wand, or other toys. But she says that the laser pointer is just a dot of light, and she knows she can’t catch it, so what’s the point? She’s a smart kitty. But I’ve never heard of a cat who doesn’t love the laser pointer.

Try the green lasers. They’re brighter.

Oh, she sees the dot, she just doesn’t see any point in chasing it.

Maybe she just wants to be on the other end of the game. Have you tried giving her control of the laser?

Cats…with lasers.

I predict nothing good will come of this.

are you out of your mind?!!111!!!

The world should be thankful, every day, that Sapphire does not have thumbs. She wants thumbs, and I swear that sometimes she tries to evolve some thumbs. But she doesn’t have them. So she allows humans to live, so that they will pet her and use a can opener. This is all subject to change if she gets thumbs, though. And possibly lasers.

Cats with thumbs…just the idea gives me vapors!!! Cats with thumbs and lasers will be worse than the Zombie invasion, because zombies dont plan and plot.

Where are the smelling salts?

I take you’ve not yet seen this… =^.^=

Oh, you don’t want to do that.

I have two cats. One loves the laser pointer, but can’t play with it because at one point in the past she had a seizure that was quite possibly caused by the laser. The other cat just isn’t interested, although he can’t help himself if you drag a string around–he must chase it. Always.

My first cat couldn’t be lured into playing with anything after she was about two years old. I would drag a string around and she’d look at me, as if to say,“I know that’s not a live thing. It’s a string. Why areyou dragging it around?”

(Non-laser cat realized I waswriting about cats and has taken over mykeyboarsd/)

We don’t have a laser pointer, so I can’t report on my cats’ reactions. The current favorite non-laser cat toy in our house is an old drinking straw. At least it’s a favorite with Taz. When Ziva deigns to join me on the couch, she prefers to attack whatever yarn I’m knitting/crocheting at the time. Apparently nothing I make is complete till it has cat spit in it. Yarn - you can’t beat the classics.

My littlest, Horton, always chases the red dot for a minute or two before realizing it’s coming from my hand, at which point he attacks my hand. He’s a genius.

Santa brought the cats a battery-powered laser toy, and they haven’t figured it out yet. They all love it.

I have three kitties, one loves the laser, one is indifferent, the third actually tries to take it away from me.

One of the best commercials EVER. (Tim Curry’s sexy voice doesn’t hurt…)

Our cat, also a seal point siamese, doesn’t care about the laser pointer. Our 90 pound german shepherd, on the other hand, goes nuts for it. If we’re not careful he’ll chase it right into the wall.

Our dog loves it too! When I was really heavily pregnant and for the first couple weeks after my c-section when I couldn’t walk the dog properly I used the laser pointer to run her around the apartment until she collapsed to make sure she got plenty of exercise.

How do you get them to watch the dot of light instead of the waving hand?

My cat Rika doesn’t do much playing at all, and certainly not a silly laser pointer (either red or green has no effect on her). She looks at it and sees the dot, but it does not interest her at all.
