One stop shopping for Sony ebooks available any-freaking-where?

My girlfriend is contemplating the acquisition of one of those Sony ebook readers. The current barrier to doing so is that she can’t find many books she has much interest in.

Seems like the official Sony site has a smattering, then there are multiple sites that have classics and public domain books for free download, then everything else is sprinkled all over the damn place with no obvious all-encompassing search engine.

Is this perhaps one of those things best postponed until the world of ebook offerings gets it collective act together a bit more, or is there a decent clearinghouse / messageboard / etc wherein one can input which titles / authors / etc one wishes to buy & download and obtain the relevant URL to go snag it from?

Go over to the MobileRead.com forums. There are sets of tools that will let you convert books of another format to Sony’s LRF format. Calibre is one of best; it’s an ebook management and conversion program written specifically with Sony Reader support in mind.

Try fictionwise.com. It’s a pretty extensive site.

As an aside, maybe the Amazon Kindle (Kindle 2 now) would have a better selection?

Also, quite a few public libraries lend ebooks using the Adobe Digital Editions tool. Those are compatible with the Sony but not the Kindle.

ebooksearchr is a great tool - just tell it what you want to read.
