One week in Valencia in April -- what to see/do?

The one in Spain, not California.

I am still dazzled by the amount of time UK employees get off work, and decided to take advantage of it this year by going somewhere Sunny and Warm in the spring. Ryanair was offering cheap flights to eastern Spain, and suddenly I’ve got eight days in Valencia this April to play with.

My holiday plans look something like this:
[ul]
[li]eat local food[/li][li]drink local libations[/li][li]wear sunglasses and sundresses[/li][li]loll around in sun doing nothing[/li][li]go in the ocean?[/li][li]read (if feeling up to it)[/li][/ul]

However, this might get same-ish after three or four days, so does anyone have thoughts on any actual things to do? Stories and tips are also invited.

Use the hop-on-hop-off bus to get your bearings around the city. You can reach the beach on line 4 of the metro, which is actually a tram. Take a boat trip around the nearby salt-water lakes (lots of wildlife). Take a walking tour of the old city. Visit the city of science and industry, but don’t bother with the science museum. When we were there have the “hands-on” exhibits weren’t working. Instead visit the next-door aquarium. For retail therapy I recommend El Corte Inglés department stores, especially their wonderful food halls.
