One week till graduation!

So far I am ten weeks into an eleven week training program for the Valley Transit Authority. I passed all the big tests up to this point, with the last two weeks essentially being shadowed by an instructor to help us get used to driving a bus on our own. So long as there are no major screw-ups next week (knock on wood! ) I will graduate next Friday.

As mundane as it is to be excited about being a bus driver, the training and career opportunities really built up the anticipation. The VTA is among the highest-paying transit agencies in the US, and starting mid-January will be rolling out some major changes to their service. I’m rather fortunate in that I am getting trained with all these changes taken in consideration, such as new vehicles, routes, etc.

It will definitely be an adventure, and after months I am really looking forward to doing this on my own. I have a great schedule and plan to move up the career ladder at every opportunity- Next summer I’m planning on applying as a Light Rail operator…some day I look forward to being certified to drive virtually anything on wheels.
