So it’s my one year anniversary…well a little overboard. But it’s also Jester’s one year (again, a little over, his was the first of August), so let’s just wish us both a happy one year, all right? I think some other people might have August anniversaries, but that’s all I can think of.
Okay so, I figured since it’s my one year, I’d like to dedicate my thread to another cartoon character: the memory of Lisa Simpson.
I’ve always admired her for her morality and her courage. Though occasionally the writers go a little overboard on her. Like in the Mensa episode, she comes off a little strong on her principles, as in the one when she opposes stealing cable. But I particularly liked her for her decision to stick with her family rather than her fiance, the Jebediah Springfield episode (or Hans Sprungfeld), and the one where she opposes Malibu Stacey.
Our similiarities are as such: Both love to read, are pretty smart for are ages, like doing the “right” thig, love the rolling stones, attracted to English guys, like animals, and we’re both turned on by “bad boys.”
Differences: I’m not a vegetarian, she plays saxaphone, she’s remarkably underappreciated, she is a pony fanatic, she’s the middle child in her fam/i’m the oldest.
Thank you for listening. If you have a gift for either Jester or I, you can leave it in make-shift bidet. Chocolate is being served upstairs. And if you have a “Simpsons” comment to make, by all means make it.
Lisa: Bart, I figured it out! Who’s someone you’ve been making irritating phone calls to for years?
Bart: Linda Lavin?
Lisa: No, someone who didn’t deserve it.
My Simpsons comment: Our local Fox affiliate used to play “The Simpsons” every day at 5pm. I went down south for a week and a half, and when I returned, they were playing reruns of “Cheers” at 5pm. This is all shades of irksome, especially since I loathe Kirstie Alley (You didn’t say it had to be an interesting comment…)
Lady Juliet, is your sigline referencing Empire Records and Family Guy, respectively? It seemed familiar. Me, I’m thinking of changing both of mine to a Powerpuff Girls quote. (It has SDMB relevence…ignorance. ;))
Happy Anniversary Zoggie! I can say with all honesty that I look forward to seeing your posts. You are a great person to have around here!
In the spirit of this thread, I would like to count myself among those who appreciate Lisa Simpson. My husband is a Bart fan through and through, and doesn’t understand why anyone would be a Lisa fan. We have this argument every so often. While Homer is my favorite Simpson, I have a great admiration for Lisa (well, as much as one can admire a fictional character), and the show would be sorely lacking without her.
[sub]Well, okay, she did get on my nerves in the vegetarian episode, but everyone has their faults.[/sub]
