Ongoing Prostate Cancer Treatment

-hangs head in shame-

You’re correct, my brain went sideways on hearing the good news. Of course, most of the post still applies about the whole adulting thing, and that it’s nice to see how your efforts are paying off.

Doesn’t mean I didn’t post foolishly, so where did I leave that hair shirt?

It is hard to keep track of all these tests. These two I have been extra aware of, of late, but there are plenty, I’m just glad they’re in the normal range and I don’t know what they are really.

Woo-hoo! That is excellent!

An A1c of 6.1 is perfectly respectable, and the fact that it has come down is also cause for major celebration!

Bravo all around.

Bravo!

an excellent report! woot!

Yeah, 3 months after I finished my radiation, my PSA was actually undetectable. Now, over 2 years later, it’s risen to 0.04, slightly above undetectable. For my case (Gleason 4+5. PSA = 5.42 cT2aN0M0 pre treatment) if the PSA stays less than 0.5 in the long run, that’s an excellent result. If it stays below 2, that’s an acceptable result. Over 2 and we start a search for recurrences. Chance of that is estimated as about 15%.

Thank you so much and sorry to bother.

It’s no bother, my friend.

Good news indeed! Glad to hear you’re starting to feel normal again.

Oh congrats! That’s excellent news.

Wonderful news. Enjoy the time off from the prostate treatments.

Best news I’ve heard all day! (Granted, it’s not even 9am here yet..)

Seriously though, yay!

Sorry for the late reply. I’m actually at the hospital now, one night post surgery. They used general anesthesia. The surgery was robotic laparoscopic. I haven’t seen the doctor yet for the recap, but I think the surgery was about two hours or so.

I feel a bit worse for wear and have to wear a catheter for a week-ish, so that’s a little annoying. Otherwise, recovery so far seems to be fine, with a few pains around the torso. The doc told my wife when he called while I was still under or coming to that they didn’t see any cancer outside the gland, so that’s good news.

Right now, I’m just jonesing for some solid food—it’s been Sunday night since I had anything other than a clear liquid or jello. I’m a little on the younger side at 50 for this procedure, so hopefully that will aid in recovery. I had the choice of radiotherapy but was recommended removal at my age.

Congrats on so far so good. With luck today is the day for real food.

Oh, yeah! It ain’t Friday yet, but pop the champagne, peeps, cause that is totally great news! :100:

Yeah, my breakfast is supposed to be solid, in about an hour. Should be released today. I’ve been jonesing for some Japanese curry, so I’m gonna try to make that happen tonight.

You do you, but I might choose to restart my digestive system gently. However much fun a digestive upset might be, it’ll be less fun with a catheter in and generalized soreness down in that general neck of the woods.

And more importantly, as @Jasmine said, congrats for no macroscopic signs of spread. That’s truly Champagne-worthy news.

Was this your surgeon?

Enjoy the meals and I hope you recover quick.

I’m still two months from knowing my results, but as far as recovery, I feel pretty much normal.

Japanese curry is mild and I’m thinking of doing it with ground chicken for a keema sort of thing. We’ll see how I feel, but I think I’ll be safe with a small spoonful and a good bit of rice. Hell, I just might make rice with the curry sauce and skip the rest of the solids.
