Can anyone recommend an online source for electronic components for hobbyists?
I don’t want to buy 5000 4060 chips, nor do I need 300 SF240E fuses; what I need is a place where I can buy two or three, pay with my Visa card, have them mailed to my house. All I get when I use Google is wholesalers and distributors.
Hosfelt is kind of an excess inventory liquidator, but they also seem to be a conventional retailer as well, abeit with a limited inventory. The website linked above is barely useable…but thier paper catalog is great.
Jameco is also hobbiest friendly. Thier paper catalogs are great, have not tried to use thier website.
I’ll second Digikey and Mouser mentioned above. Digikey charges you $5 (IIRC) if you don’t meet a $25 minimum. If I don’t make the minimum, I’ll buy some extra 2N3904s, 1N4148s 10K resistors, LEDs…stuff that is always handy in the junk box. Digikey ships fast, fast, fast. I’ve placed an order late sunday evening with them, and had it show up before 10 on monday.
Rocketeer, my friend has a garage full of electronics components that he got when his dad’s business went under a few years back. He hasn’t been able to sell them on eBay because he has too many to catalog and list right now. He would be able to accept CC’s. If you’re interested feel free to send me a list of items you’re looking for at my profile address. Put SDMB in the subject. I’ll pass it along to him.
I know nothing of electronics so I can’t be sure if what he has would match what you need, but I’ve seen his collection and he’s got hundreds of thousands of items, all new in boxes.
I’m sure they don’t have much in the way of chips, but http://partsexpress.com is a good supplier for audio-related parts, so I’ll throw them into the thread for the hell of it. I’m sure someone will find them useful.
