I recently joined an online service for meeting people interested in no-strings-sex. I took the 3-day trial period and cancelled the rebill, so I’m no longer a member. To all appearances it was for real and I’m thinking about rejoining (after I round up a photo of myself), but I’m still a little unsure if I’m getting scammed. That is, is it just a lot of phony info on non-existent women ( or maybe the info swiped from a legit service but with no women actually signed up with this particular service)?
Anybody here had experience with one of these? Are there any that are known to be unreliable? How can I find out about these? Any recommendations?
Is it okay with the mods if we mention these businesses by name? It’s legal, I assume.
So, I’m assuming the membership is something like 50,000 men, 6 women? I wouldn’t think there would be much of a market for women who want to use the Internet to meet men for casual sex, but just haven’t been able to find any men who are interested.
Word. Considering that, as a female of the species, you can go to a bar and pretty much find someone for “no-strings” sex pretty damn easily. Why have to go through all the nonsense and trickery of an online site?
Really? This might be true for a woman who doesn’t give a damn, but many of the advertised women are married. Prowling requires you to be out in public and you might be seen by someone you know. Plus, you can communicate for a while anonymously and safely to see if he says anything freaky.
The other thing about the site is that many of the ads are for couples looking for another couple or a 2nd woman. The pictures of the women look like real women with a variety of faces and figures. The ratios of numbers of women from metro areas and podunk towns are right. They have pages and pages of testimonials from men who got laid (supposedly gotten by offering prizes for best stories).
A lot of trouble was gone to make this site look legit.
During my 3-day period (which only ended today), I sent out about 30 messages to women that included my e-mail address. I’ll wait to see if I get responses with that first.
I think it’s perfectly possibly it’s a legitamite site. There are woman who want casual sex, and there are reasons they might prefer to look for it online (which I think Francis hit on- the reasons, not the women. Ok, the reasons AND the women :)).
And there may be goood reasons why they’d rather do it on this site than any random chat room. I think that’s the question, not that such a site could exist but is this one any good? Well, are there reasons a woman would choose to sign up there? Does the site give her reasons to feel more secure? Are there pages and pages of women’s testamonials and what do they sound like? (real women or cribbed porn :)?)
Of course even if the site is legitamite I’m sure some of teh women are professionsal or semi-professional, so there’s that too.
There are some personal pages in newspapers where you can place an ad for free, but must call their $2.50/minute 976 number to actually contact any of the ads. Interestingly enough, some of the ads for women were fake; they were just “bait” to get guys to pour money into the 976 number. (I know this because I knew the person who composed several of them, and no, he wasn’t even a woman)
Given this, I wouldn’t be surprised if a no-strings-sex site uses the same sort of scam.
Good point about the women’s testimonials. I’ll check for that. Also women can sign up for free, so I’m thinking about signing up as woman and seeing what happens.
Interestingly, there is a link on the site to report profiles that are suspected to be fake or soliciting money, so that’s another point towards “seems legit.”
I was a member of adultfriendfinder.com, once upon a time, and I’ve probably met nearly a half-dozen women through online services of some kind.
My take? They’re not scams. These businesses have so little overhead, there’s really no reason to invent people. They make a sweet profit even if you sign up for only one month. All they’re really doing is providing server space.
But I have to re-emphasize the point Giraffe made. There are almost WAY more women then men, although the quantity of gay men counterbalances this some. The women I’ve met online all told me they received huge numbers of messages, most of them lewd.
Personally, I have forsworn meeting people this way, even though by all accounts I have a better-than-average success rate. For one, I think these services are taking advantage of lonely people. For another, if I wasn’t lazy, I could meet women directly, without spending any money on a third-party service. And lastly, but perhaps most important, I’ve never met someone who really had it “all together” as far as relationships were concerned, from a website. The people who rely on them are usually the ones who are unable, unwilling, or afraid to interacte with people in open settings. I had to be honest with myself and admit that was not the type of woman I was looking for.
I signed up as a woman to have a look. Yep. It’s for real. There’s a women-only forum where they all share notes. However, in my state there are around 800 women and 3000+ men. Odds aren’t good. But what the heck. 33 bucks. I’ll give it a shot.
And this is not matchmaking. The emphasis with this site is explicitly sex only. All the messages are going to be lewd. Yay!
Even if the place is ‘sex only’ don’t think that the women want a constant stream of lewd messages. I signed up for a service like that, Lavalife, and actually met my current GF there. I chatted with a number of women from the site, met a few, and NONE of them were interested in guys who were lewd and rude.
If the site is (or can be) free for women, a number of the ads will be fake, keep an eye out for those.
I signed up last night at about midnight (posing as a woman). As of 8:30 this morning, according to my e-mail notification, I have had 13 responses. If that is the usual rate women receive responses, the typical guy belonging to this site doesn’t have much of a chance. On the plus side, I do think I’m better looking most of the guys there.
I’ll probably still give it a try for a month. I’m not really going to miss the $33.
