Online map of renaissance/medieval italy

I need help finding an online map of renaissance or medieval Italy. I’m basing an NWN campaign on that setting and would like to have a reference that is as detailed as possible.

So far I’ve had some luck, but the best I’ve gotten is a small map with the name of major provinces. I need somehting that will detail atleast major towns/cities and smaller provinces.

Anyone happen to know of such a resource online?

Hopefully these will be as detailed as necessary. Otherwise, you’ll need to head to a good library - history books will have maps showing specific details, such as major political boundaries, centres of population, or whatever is being discussed, without being cluttered with other data.

I presume you know of this site? Also you might get lucky in the collections listed in this Open Directory category

Wow, thanx a lot guys!

try 1300, 1400, etc.

GorillaMan beat me to the U Texas map page, but Fordham also has a map selection in their Medieval Source Book with Italy showing up about half way down the page (10th century, 11th & 12th centuries, and Renaissance). Also check out the maps for the surrounding areas in the same time period, as borders tended to be a bit fluid.

Surprisingly (to me) National Geographic had almost nothing usable on line for your needs. (My National Geographic maps on CD have a 1995 map that shows a 1486 map of Italy, and a 1949 map of the Classical Lands of the Mediterranean that has historic sites in italy marked in red, but I can’t find them on the web site.)
