Thats right, one week from tommorow I will be at the Congress Theatre in Chicago watching the one and only Shane Mcgowan doing his thing. I’m only a little excited can you tell.
Anyone else going to catch them on this tour? My tickets are already to go now all I need is to come up with booze money.
Is this the part where I get to brag about seeing the Pogues in Dublin four days before Christmas on the final stop of their tour last year? Because it was an AWESOME SHOW. You’re in for a real treat! You probably won’t have the whisky-soused legions wearing Irish flags as capes and shouting “IRA! IRA!”…but you might, and they do add a certain something to make it an even more memorable experience.
We went to the southern California shows. They were outstanding. However, having said that, I must tell you a couple of things-
If you haven’t seen Shane in a while, be prepared- he doesn’t look so good. The mileage has caught up with him, big time. He performs about 1 in 3 songs during the set.
Chevron will probably be doing “Thousands are Sailing” but don’t worry- it’s excellent. Spider will do a couple of songs as well.
I was torn about seeing Shane shambling around the stage the way he was. When he was singing, he was the Shane of old- loud, angry, raucous and passionate. But during the in-between, he looked a bit lost.
