I hate to interject in rather venal fashion but, link? Strictly for research purposes, obviously, since I was once rather skilled at fruit-based bongufacture.
Eighth one down, but it was Charlize Theron.
Ach, that Charlize - she’s no better than she ought to be. ![]()
Ditto.
FYI, Subway is denying they are ending their endorsement deal.
I like Togo’s better anyway.
So all human beings eventually try cigarettes and drugs? I didn’t. (Although I suppose I must admit you did say “probably”).
The “tobacco is more dangerous than marijuana” assertion is based on the statistics on smoking-related deaths and marijuana-related deaths. The problem is that one cannot disentangle the two. For example, if someone dies of emphysema, this is labelled a smoking-related death – regardless of whether someone smokes tobacco, marijuana, or both.
I’m not interested in debating the merits or dangers of marijuana, as I find those discussions to be tiresome. However, I do agree that it’s not “obvious” that tobacco is more dangerous than marijuana.
You have a cite for that? There are people who never smoked anything who die of emphysema, and I am very doubtful whether their deaths would be categorized as “smoking-related”.
I’d say it’s more dangerous in the sense that it’s a great deal more addictive and most tobacco smokers inhale much more tobacco smoke over a longer period of their lives than pot smokers.
Anecdotally, I started smoking cigarettes at age 15 and continued pretty much daily until age 37, whereas my marijuana usage occurred rather sporadically between the ages of 17 and 24. It wasn’t all that addictive for me and I stopped smoking pot because my then-boyfriend-now-husband asked me to. Cigarettes, OTOH, were a real pain in the ass to quit.
I’d say my health was more negatively impacted by prolonged tobacco use than pot use.
Here you go. The bottom line is that the methodologies used to establish smoking-related death rates is severely flawed.
Besides, note that I was talking about people who smoked “tobacco, marijuana, or both.” I did NOT claim that non-smokers who die of emphysema would be automatically categorized under smoking-related death. (In point of fact, as the Cato Institute article shows, the CDC does attempt to take that into account, but using a severely flawed methodology. And even if their methodology were perfect, without firm statistics on who is a pot smoker and who isn’t, the results should still be viewed with skepticism.)
Mind you, I have no sympathy for the tobacco industry. None whatsoever. Nevertheless, I can acknowledge that the methodologies used to establish the number of smoking-related deaths is flawed in the extreme, which means that we should be skeptical about sweeping claims that tobacco is inherently more dangerous than marijuana.
Big Tobacco is the main reason why marijuana will never be legalized.
Glad I’m not the only one. I was like “Fred the Loon is a stoner ? How is that a non-story ?!”
Apologies. I misread your post and thought you were claiming something you weren’t.
Is it just me or does Phelps look a lot like Obama in that cartoon? I wonder if they are by chance related?
Phelps should move to California and get himself a medical marijuana license for his ADHD or something.
Obama should invite him to the White House for dinner and officially express what a non-issue this should be.
This whole ‘obey the laws because they are laws and as such cannot be incorrect in any way’ mindset just completely baffles me. Jimpatro, if I may ask, how do people like you survive in modern society? Say you’re stuck at a red light at midnight without a car anywhere in sight. A minute passes. Then two, three, five. After a while you realize that light just ain’t turning green. Do you continue to sit there on a deserted street because the law says it’s illegal to run a red light? Does common sense EVER overthrow the idiocy in charge and take command, or do you continue to sit there and waste away to nothingness in your unyielding obedience to your warped notion of “nobility?”
I’m going to bed.
Isn’t desecration of a body and necrophilia illegal for just that reason? Then again, you may think those shouldn’t be illegal either (except for related laws one commits in doing so, like breaking and entering, of course).
The necrophilia IMO is just another example of society deciding what constitutes acceptable sexual practices for everyone. No gay sex, no aminal sex, no dead sex…
but underaged same sex dead animals are still ok, right?
