Vell, my nick comes directly from subsconscious word-play. With a little spin directed at popular media. I liked the sound. It came and it stayed.

**What my name means: ** It’s a drink I used to drink at a divey little bar in Austin.
What people think it means: Probably that I think I’m a pretty little pink pussycat of a girl. Or something like that.

You may indeed have. Here is a similar thread that took place last week for all you name-explanation-philes.
what’s the deal with your name?
I think there are also references to yet more name info threads within this thread as well. Enjoy.
I see Flami has it in for me for starting a thread about her…
My name means “The thing speaks for itself.” It’s legal terminology used when you want to sue people who drop barrels on your head. (Long story…) It basically means you don’t have to prove negligence in court, because there’s no way your injury could have happened unless the defendant was negligent. I picked it because it was a recurring gag in my first year of law school.
I have no idea what people think it means, although I have been accused of being a dinosaur on a respirator.

Nenya: Galadriel’s ring of power in the Lord of the Rings. Also sounds like “Enya” who did several cool songs for LOTR:FOTR, though I thought of that later. Galadriel is amazingly beautiful and wise, and I decided I wanted to be like that but didn’t think I could carry off calling myself her.
Elizabeth: A fake middle name given to a cousin of mine by me once I realized that she didn’t have a middle name. She was also called “George” as a middle name–nothing to do with Nancy Drew, even.
Well, mine just comes from the fact that I’ve been told on many occasions that I seem to live my life the same way I play RPG’s. I’m sure the folks that play D&D or most ‘decent’ RPG’s understand the reference as soon as they see it. I just spelled it with a twist.
I got my name on the SDMB. The post explaining it was lost in the Winter of Our Missed Content, so I’ll just explain it in brief here. My first name is Rachael. I got a piece of spam snail-mail addressed to someone named “RACHAAR.” After posting that anecdote to the board it was decided that it needed to become my new username (I used to be saffostarr), and thus, RaCha’ar the barbarian queen was born.
“pravnik” is czech and russian for “lawyer”, but I’m not, and I’m not, and I’m not.
“Prav” is czech and russian (and perhaps many other slavic tongues) for “truth” (like commie newspaper “Pravda”) and the suffix -nik means “thing or person that does or is associated with”, kinda like the english -er suffix. e.g., “popel” is czech for “ash”; “popelnik” is “asher”, or ashtray.
So “pravnik”, or lawyer, is literally “truther”. But I’m not. Well, mostly I am.
So…did you post your fics on a website by any chance? Most of mine are on the page in my sig (I post them on the x-files boards first) and I’m hunting for links for anything X-files (or Dawson’s Creek) that has crossovers with other shows.
What you think it means: You think it has a sexual connotation, but that actually has nothing to do with it.
What it really means:
The “blow” part is referring to playing a wind instrument. Back in music school, most of my classmates and I agreed that Ravel was a great composer. We also agreed that “Bolero” was pretty much the worst thing he ever wrote. It’s basically a big festering pile of dung that you are forced to play at almost every pops concert. Aside from a few novel orchestrational ideas, it has no redeeming value as a piece of music. It has 2 melodies, which are repeated ad naseum by different instruments for what seems like an eternity. It ranks right up there with the 1812 Overture and the Pachylbel Canon as pieces that are so overplayed that you could happily go the rest of your life never having to perform them again.
So instead of Bol-er-o, we dubbed it Blow-er-o.
Ok. Explanation requested, please? How is it you can live your life like a RPG? Also (call me naive) are there indecent RPGs?
Great movie and years ago I thought it would make a cool quake handle so started to use it. It stuck.
Some people think my name is Jim but they’d be wrong.
yojimbo (Peter)
However my name is indeed Jim.
I wanted jim as a username, but it was taken. So I added an extra consonant on each end. I got this idea from my brother bbobb.
Cryptic, eh?
What people think my name means: Usually they seem to assume it means something terribly clever in Norwegian. Of course, it doesn’t mean anything in Norwegian, clever or otherwise.
What it really means: It really means me, that’s all. A little googling will reveal its source to the truly curious.
My name stems from my first foray into chat rooms, six or eight years ago. I went into a Star Trek chat room on the old WBS system ([tangent]Does anyone else remember them? Does anyone else miss them? Has anyone else reserved a special place in hell for the Go! Network? [/tangent]), and tried to think of a handle. I liked the name Dare or Darryl, and I ‘aliened’ it up a bit. Since it’s completely original, noone else has ever used it, and I stuck with it.
**What my name means ** It was the 26th attempt to get a name here.
What you people think it means
Zebra
means quality (but not quality spelling) Zebra brings insight and humor to any thread.
and to some dopers (especially ones called Skerri it means soaking wet panties.
This is from a Baldur’s Gate page. I’m not saying I live this way…I’ve just been told by gaming friends I act like this at times. It’s also the way I tend to play my characters.
"Chaotic Neutral characters believe that there is no order to anything, including their own actions. With this as a guiding principle, they tend to follow whatever whim strikes them at the moment. Good and evil are irrelevant when making a decision. Chaotic Neutral characters are extremely difficult to deal with. Such characters have been known to cheerfully and for no apparent reason purposely gamble away everything they have on the roll of a single die. "
Skerri- middle initial added to the beginning of my first name.
What do I think you think? I have no idea. The first thing that pops into my head is ‘frightning’, but judging from my posts, I’m not really frightning. More silly, than anything else. So, frightning in a state-fair funhouse sort of way.
Heh heh. Zebra, you are such a dork.
It’s only because you make me laugh, and then I become incontinent. What can I say?
