Bye the way, Alberto, I know you’re cranked right now and may not feel like it was a very positive experience, but how did you enjoy your experience of voting for the first time? I don’t know if you remember, but I welcomed you to the fray the other night when you commented that this would be your first opportunity to vote.
I believe it was an interview, but I highly doubt she doesn’t get the questions beforehand.
I enjoyed it insomuch as one can enjoy voting.
I’m satisfied I did it and I wouldn’t take it back, but I felt happy to stand in the rain outside a church for an hour to participate in the way this country works. It isn’t something I’d do to see a new movie or anything like that. I’ll gladly vote again in two years, then two years after that, and until I’m no longer able.
But I thank you again for the welcome.
It’s great that you went to so much inconvenience and discomfort in order to make your voice heard. Even though we’re on opposite sides of the fence, I admire you for doing so.
Regards.
Bah. All politicians are actors. Arnie’s just more upfront about it than most.
Nah, he’s too busy editing the opening scenes to Fahrenheit 912.
And you just made my point. The rest are just noise to me.
Note that the election results did not change the facts and events depicted in Fahrenheit 9/11 one iota.
If anything, the tendency for folks to vote for Bush because they believe he could better protect the nation from terrorism vindicates one of the movie’s points – that targeting the American populace with scare tactics works.
True, I think - but this has always been true and has often been practised. Had Moore made only this point, the film wouldn’t have sold.
Michael Moore’s Relevance. Buy it here.

rjung I remember you saying Michael Moore’s Farentheit 9/11 just might be the thing that decided the election in Kerry’s favour. Do you still believe the movie overall was positive for Kerry’s election chances? Because I hear a lot of talk that it was over the top liberal rhetoric that drove many voters towards the republicans. Not gloating, just interested to know.
Considering the fact that this thread was started for the express purpose of bashing Michael Moore (or at least taunting him), most of the responses have been pretty weak tea.
Let me show you how to do it:
I hate Michael Moore more than any other human being on the planet - including Osama bin Laden. OBL is a foreigner and our sworn enemy. Fine. I can deal with that. But Michael Moore is an American citizen. And he makes a lot of money going around the world encouraging people to hate America and Americans. This is the very definition of sedition.
How big a step is it from hating Americans to killing Americans?
In spite of his millions, Michael likes to pose as an Everyman - a big, fat, jolly slob with no fashion sense who desperately needs a shave, a haircut and a long hot shower. But every time he opens his ugly yap, an innocent American (or one of our foreign friends) somewhere is marked for death. There is nothing funny about that.
Michael Moore is a loathsome, bloated maggot - gorging himself on anti-American filth and corruption. The fact that Liberals and Democrats actually embraced this stinking, appalling monster goes a long way toward explaining why they lost the 2004 elections so badly.
Actually, I believe that the election result proved that people did buy into the lies they had been told.
Bullshit, unless you’re in your special little world where Bush equals America or firearm murders equal America.
Pretty big. Not that it’s relevant.
To be fair, he is in fact a big fat jolly slob with no fashion sense, and he does desperately need a shave, a haircut and a long hot shower.
Cite?
Aww, Priceguy beat me to it. Oh, well. I’ll see what I can add.

n.
- Conduct or language inciting rebellion against the authority of a state.
- Insurrection; rebellion.
If you’d kindly point me to where he’s asking people to take up arms against America, I’d be appreciative.
On the actual meat of the paragraphs…so? Why does everyone have to march in line with how the acting President feels? Did you denounce the “Clinton scandal” as wrong and the Republicans were wrong for pursuing it? Were you against investigating Watergate? Iran-Contra? Stop me if I hit the nail here.
Michael Moore hates Americans? I thought it was just Bush.
So, Americans = one American. OK, reasonable enough, I suppose.
But wait, you hate Michael Moore. I’m sure he can prove his citizenship if need be. Doesn’t that make you a cold-blooded killer? Or at least close, by your own logic?
And surely no one’s ever posed as something they’re not.
I’d be shocked if the President, for example, was running around on his ranch, clearing brush and wearing a cowboy hat. Shocked , I tell you.

Uh-huh.
And Ann Coulter is the Virgin Mary, I suppose?
I don’t see many people on the right calling her names.
I’ve been a member on this board for nearly 5 years now and I’ve seen people post some reprehensible shit. I’ve seen people getting banned for being obnoxious assholes. But I must say this is possibly the most hateful, ignorant, reprehensible crap I’ve ever read here. You should be ashamed. You should be banned. Fuck you.
Man, I screwed up some coding there. The paragraph that reads:
…should be quoted and attributed to Roseworm. I apologize for the error.
Bullshit. He goes around the world encouraging people to distrust the current administration. As well we should. That’s a far cry from hating America. Unless, of course, you’re one of those “Either you’re with us or you’re against us” morons.
And the more I hear Cult of Bush squawk about Moore, the more I tend to believe him.
Ah, thank you, again.
I’ve been lurking for quite a while, SA, and I don’t tend to agree with your politics, but I certainly respect how civilly you defend your principles. Respect for the opposition is important or else one loses perspective. I think we just had a good example of that.
I feel I should apologize, though, for not making this post sooner. It was in my head, but I couldn’t remember for the life of me which thread it was. They’re just all so damned similar right about now…
Wasn’t he in Europe when he said something about Americans being the stupidest citizens on planet Earth? Or something to that effect in an interview.
Or maybe, for some of us, it came down to whether or not we believed a pro-life President had a better shot at his aims against abortion than an anti-firearms President had for banning semi-automatic firearms. Maybe some of us remembered things like NAFTA being enacted by a Democrat President and opening the door for jobs to begin leaving the US. Maybe some of us considered the issues of ‘No Child Left Behind’ and what an utter failure and money pit it has been. Maybe, just maybe, domestic issues were more important to some of us than issues of foreign policy. Mabye some of us voted for a guy whose beliefs we don’t always like because we were at least sure what he stood for.
Not every vote for a candidate is predicated on the belief or disbelief of the ‘WMD’ statements.
What foreigners who comment on our elections and what choices we should make tend to forget is that the policies of those who are put into office will, first and foremost, affect those of us who live in the country they govern.
-catsix, who voted for 2 Republicans, 2 Democrats, and 2 Libertarians.
I don’t know about that, but if he did, I’m sure it came as no shock to Europeans. They’ve long before thought that of us. As have I.
