OpenOffice help: Can't open specific file

So, pretty much what it says in the title: I have a specific file I can’t open in OpenOffice on my computer.

The file is the top ‘downloads’ file on this page: http://www.westguard.org/index.php?title=MnM_Character_Builder

I was able to use this program just fine for… As long as I can remember. Then last night…

When I try to open it, the OpenOffice program freezes and will not load at all. When I try to close it out, it gives me the ‘This program has hit an error’ message. The details from said message are as follows:

Note that I can open that file on -other- computers, just not on my current one. I’ve tried uninstalling and re-installing openoffice, and I’ve even tried other readers (libreoffice), but it’s a constant lock-up. I have no clue what to do at this point, and it’s starting to hit me in a lot of computer-centric anxiety attack triggers. Help!

That’s your print spooler. Try uninstalling your printer (Or maybe even just changing the default printer) and see if that fixes the issue.

If so, you’ll probably need to look for another printer driver to fix it. Depending on the model of your printer, that could be easy or hard.

Spot -on-! It took me a year to get the damn thing uninstalled- the drivers were insanely corrupt- but now that it’s gone, the file loads just fine. Thank you -so- much!

Well, I’d argue that OpenOffice shouldn’t hang because a print spooler is screwed up, also. At least not until it’s actually trying to print.

But glad we got it solved.
