Starting yesterday, on a few sites such as NPR.org, homepage image previews suddenly stopped showing up. Instead of the image I get a big white minus sign in a blue circle. When I click on the story I can read the story, but there is no image there either, just the minus sign. If the image is a link to a video, the video seems to work (although it’s possible this varies by site).
Yes, forgot to mention, I tried it in Firefox and it is fine. That’s why I assumed it was the browser.
I’ve been using Opera for around a year I think, and this just changed yesterday. I’ve been considering re-installing the program (which I hate doing because it took me a while to get the settings the way I like it).
I went ahead and re-installed, and there was a version upgrade available. It picked up all my old settings from the previous version. The problem still exists exactly the same as before the upgrade.
The ad-blocking feature is not working properly either. But even when I turn it off, the other stuff happens.
I happened to be looking at foxnews dot com (hey, someone here on SDMB linked to it) and I noticed the same minus signs on that site too, but as I scrolled down the page I noticed the images would come up if I gave the screen a couple of seconds instead of immediately scrolling past.
I still don’t know what was wrong, but I had to uninstall and then re-install Opera to fix it. A real pain in the ass, but it’s working now. I was using Firefox for a few days while I figured out what to do, and I’m glad I was able to go back to Opera.
I’m using Dropbox (with Microsoft Edge browser) and I too only see outlines with filenames when I open a folder.
If I click on one, the image appears (and additionally shows all the images in that folder in a sequence of tiny images along the bottom of the screen which I can scroll through.)
