Opinions of the Zune

I’m thinking of getting a Zune, and am curious what any Zune owners out there think of the device, software, ZunePass, etc. Also, do you know if the 120GB model is coming out next week along with the firmware upgrade for the older models.

I was wondering about the Zune myself. I have an Ipod mini now, that’s several years old. I was never very fond of I-Tunes. Besides that, I’d just like to try a non-Apple product.

I’ve had a Zune 80 since it came out last year, and I’ve been really happy with it. The software runs well, it syncs with my xbox 360, the interface is easy to use, I really have no complaints. Well except that it doesn’t have the doesn’t have the equalization control that the original zune had. I don’t know why they took that out.

The zune pad is great as a controller but might take some getting used to.

The wifi is cool and all, and works great with my home network, but I’ve never had the opportunity to actually use the connect to another zune function. I’m the only one I know who has one, which limits the possibilities for that.

I think I read that book. Frank Herbert really took a sharp downturn, didn’t he?

Agree with 5-HT. I’m the only person I know with a Zune (allegedly they’d been outselling the iPod… ), so can’t talk about the wifi feature. It certainly works well for me. The touchpad is very nice, very intuitive, although sometimes to ‘click’ you have to hit it in just the right spot in the middle, which can be annoying but isn’t a big deal. Overall, tho, I like it.

I adore my Zune. I took about 2 weeks to pick out an MP3 player, eventually narrowing it down to the 80gb Zune and the 80gb iPod Classic, and the Zune won out with me because of the larger screen, better controls, better earphones out of the box, and the inclusion of an FM receiver. I had some initial complaints with the Zune software, but the current version is working great for me and doesn’t lack any features I feel I need.

I bought an 80 gig Zune a few days ago, I tried to get the thing to run about 15 or 20 times on my laptop. I did so many steps trying to get the Zune crap-ware to see the Zune that I don’t feel like listing them again.

M$ is absolutely no help with Zune problems, they either don’t know or don’t care (or both), at the Zune forum (www.zune.net look for a thread called “This POS is going back”) some folks tried to help but after exchanging the first Zune and having the same trouble with the second I give up and I am returning this POS.

Microcrap can KMA.

Zune review. One of the upsides of owning a Zune that no one’s mentioned yet is that you’ll never having to worry about anyone stealing it, unlike your iPod.

Was this a windows laptop? I don’t think I ever had something install as easily as my zune did on my Dell, not surprisingly.

Hmm. Well, to be fair, the iPod makes you install software too and I’ve found the iTunes/Quicktime bundle to be a much bigger, bloated, slowly-loading bundle of bloatware than the Zune program.

I like the player just fine - a less trendy iPod, essentially. The ability to interface with the 360 however is a really unique and progressive (if not particularly useful) feature.

I’ve got a Zune, and as unclviny noted, it’s a bitch to get set up. Once I did that, though, it works like a charm. It’s quite sturdy and I like the radio function.

The only thing I don’t like (and I’m hoping it’ll be rectified in a future release) is that you can’t select songs to leave out of the shuffle like you can with the iPod.
