Does anybody here use Virgin.net as an ISP for broadband? I recently switched from Pipex to them and I have a problem, a most silly one: I can’t check my Yahoo! mail or get to ebay.co.uk.
With Yahoo! Mail, I can login just fine, but I can’t get to the Inbox folder. I click the icon and wait, wait, wait forever. Nothing happens. That’s with Mozilla. As for IE (unfortunately, for various reasons I have to use Windows at home now), it returns an error message about the site not responding.
As for ebay.co.uk, the browsers just don’t find it. Mozilla keeps me waiting forever. IE gives me an error message. The american site, ebay.com, is ok, but of course I don’t have a login there.
My wife reports not being able to get to her MSN login.
Similar things happen with a handful of web pages in sites I browse; I might get to a music review site and maybe I can’t access the King Crimson page, with the same symptoms. So I think it should not be a DNS issue, but that’s my WAG.
I am using a Conexant 4-port Ethernet router. I didn’t change settings anywhere, I pretty much just changed login data and left the rest the way it was (automatic DNS and so on). No changes to the settings on the antivirus or the firewall software, either - anyway, I can get to other sites, so the browsers are not blocked. The IP addresses for those sites are not in the black list either.
I emailed the tech support, but Virgin.net is famous for just ignoring tech-support email; they have a policy of forcing customers to use the very expensive telephone support. Before dealing with half-competent script-reading wannabe techs, I thought I’d ask to the much more competent Doper friends (there, captatio benevolentiae! ).
What could I check?
