Opinions on Comcast voice service?

We just received an offer from Comcast to combine our cable (already from Comcast), internet access (already from Comcast), and telephone (Verizon) in a package that is substantially cheaper than the total we now pay for the three services.

Any opinions, humble or otherwise, concerning Comcast voice service? I assume it is VOIP? (And that, therefore, we would have to buy VOIP equipment?) I tend to think of Comcast as demonspawn with monopoly power (in my 'hood), so I’m reluctant to switch voice service voluntarily. But it would be cheaper…

I switched primarily because it now costs me about the same for 3 services as I was paying Verizon for 2 (phone and DSL). Oddly enough I think of Verizon as demonspawn with monopoly power (and thieves!) and so was happy to switch.

I did not have to buy anything. The installer showed up with a cable modem. I kept the same phones with the same phone number.

The service itself has been fine - I signed up almost a year ago. However, when the cable goes out…everything’s out. How do you call in a repair request??? I don’t know what your situation is. I live in an aparment complex and twice this year have lost service because a neighbor moved out and the wrong turn off switch was flipped or wire disconnected.

I’m doing cable, internet and phone through Comcast. I have had some downtime on both the phone and computer, but I think there was a physical problem out here somewhere. It seems to be fixed. The quality is great and the billing is all in one, so less checks for me to write. We’re pretty happy with the service.
