Steam has this on sale for 30% off (sale price $10.49 US). The reviews seem very positive. I like Minecraft, though I tend to like more realistic graphic games like Rising World a bit better.
I hear the Lego games have humor and fun unique to the Lego franchise, so I’m considering trying it out.
I was pretty excited about it when I first heard of it. Played it for a bit, but was ultimately bored. It’s really all about building, but there’s no real reason to build other than to just build. There are a few minor enemies (skeletons), but last I heard there were no plans to put any more “game” into it. Heck, *Minecraft *is more of a game than Lego Worlds is.
Of course, it’s been a few months since I even opened the program, maybe things have changed.
I haven’t played it but the one guy I know who bought it made sure to return it during Steam’s refund window. He said it felt like playing a random Lego game except with no plot and no purpose.
I’m guessing the act of physically making stuff doesn’t translate well into the same joy in-game. As I said: I haven’t played it, I only know someone who did and found it disappointing enough to get a refund.
Thanks for all the comments; I did buy it this evening and played for about 30 minutes. There isn’t any sort of tutorial or hints, so there is a bit of learning to do. Cute; we’ll see how durable it is.
Some playable characters and rideable animals need to be unlocked by finding them in the game world and giving them a specific object. This object will appear in a speech balloon above their head and can be found inside large chests.
For example, the Cowgirl wants a rifle and the Brown Horse wants a green apple.
I’ve played a few sessions, and it just doesn’t grab me. Something about it seems…juvenile, which I know is a really weird thing to say but I can’t think of another way to express it. It’s just too…toy-like. Which I’m sure is the point, but it has some characteristic that puts me off in a way that Minecraft doesn’t.
