Options Auctioning Stuff Locally Versus Online?

Are there any options for auctioning stuff locally rather than online to avoid shipping costs? I have quite a bit of stuff, but would like to convert some of it into money.

You can see if there is a local auction house. I’ve not had much luck with the ones here.

I auction stuff online, and charge the buyers with the cost of their postage.

Also, one can auction online, and specify local pickup only, no shipping. I’ve done this a few times, but I live in a large city where the probability for that to work is higher. Works for big or delicate things that are normally not shipped.

Good luck, best season seems to start in the fall and tapers off at the end of spring.

OP: what kind of stuff do you have and what type of area do you live in?

  1. I think consignment auction houses are more popular in rural areas, but are still around.
  2. But right now it seems Craigslist and similar sites are what people are more likely to use.
  3. The classified section of the local newspaper and well as local free weekly advertising shoppers are still around but have declined in popularity.
  4. You can hold a garage sale or (in many places) set up a the flea market or hire someone to hold a tag sale for you.
  5. There are consignment shops which sell certainly types of merchandise.
  6. For certain types of merchandise you can sell to a dealer who sells that type of used merchandise.

There is basically a tradeoff between the amount of time you spend selling and the profit you will receive.

Again give us more information for better advice.
