I thought this thread was about wine, and if not, then about music. I’d totally forgotten the penguin. I don’t get the local paper, but I’m sure that eventually it will be available in paperback book form and there will be merchandizing and more merchandizing. Did they bring back any of the other characters?

Not yet, but we’ve only seen one strip so who knows.
We Iowans of a certain age regard Breathed as one of our own because he was living in Iowa City when his first strip came out. But then we Iowans think that anybody with even the most tangential connection to the State as one of our own, including people who just drove down Interstate 80 and did no more than empty their bladder in one of the rest stops. John Steinbeck peed in Newton, we proclaim with joy and pride, see what a great place this is.
At any rate, it’s nice to see him back in publication, although I have my doubts about the air-brush quality of the color work.

OT, I read Opus, and I smell Outland, so sad I want to smell fishnuts instead.
So far, we’ve had three strips, of which two focus on Opus fantasizing about being ministrated to by women. Isn’t this pretty early in the run to be recycling ideas? This does not bode well.

[cynical]Other Bloom County characters will return, if only because Breathed will run out of ideas. He did the same thing in Outland. I think he took Bloom County for granted, and I think he’s taking it for granted that he can waltz in and get a new strip whenever he wants (which, of course, he can). I don’t think his heart’s in the new strip, and I don’t think he’s ever realized how much BC was a phenomenon of lightning striking just as much as it was his talent.[cynical]
