You have/had your period for fifteen days a month? I have never in my life heard of something like that, do you have a medical condition that causes that? (Certainly you don’t have to answer if it is none of my business…which it isn’t ;). I’m just curious).
Me too, though the effects took a few months to kick in. When I tried a new pill, my doc says she always recommends that you try a hormonal birth control for three months before giving up on it, assuming no really heinous side effects.
I have been using Nuva-Ring for a few months now, and the first couple of months it looked like my cramps were going to be worse than on the pill, but they were much better last time I got my period.
ugh, I’m glad the ring is working for someone. I tried it for the recommended 3 months and had my period for the last two months straight. With exactly one day of relief in the middle. My doc assured me the ring would be ideal since I’m so small. Just goes to show, no one method works for everyone. I’m much happier back on the pill.
Very long, very heavy, very painful periods are fairly common in my family. I know for a fact that my mother, both sisters and maternal grandmother all had problems with this.
For many years, I suffered more than any child (started when I was 10. first 2 years of peroids were all a minimum of 12 days) should have to - all because I wasn’t a “loose” girl. We couldn’t find a doctor who would give me the pill without being sexually active. Finally, after my mother woke up in the wee hours of the morning and found me in the fetal position on the bathroom floor, bawling my little heart out, she finally managed to convince her OB/GYN to see me. There’s nothing wrong with me - or my uterus actually…there’s lots of stuff wrong with my other parts. It’s just a fact of my life. Keep in mind that I’m only 25. I first saw the doctor for this when I was almost 18. So, it was only late 1997 when I was refused care - it’s not like it was the early 70’s in a Catholic hospital or anything. To this day, I still don’t know what their issue was.
To make matters worse, all us Congoladies are either borderline or fully anemic. Some of us have had bleeding last more than a month. Nothing has ever been found to be wrong.
MAJOR TMI Alert!!!
my mother once told me that my grandmother used to wear 2 super size tampons and a super size pad - all at the same time. I’ve never doubled up tampons but I’ve used pads and a supersize tampon at the same time and still bled through. I’ve had clots the size of my fist.
It helped me enourmously. I used to get cramps so bad on the 1st day of my cycle that oftentimes I couldn’t get out of bed that day. It felt like my lower back and abdomen were being crushed by a huge brick. Since I’ve been on the Pill I’ve had almost no cramps at all during my cycle.
