I really don’t know much about biology, but I recently saw some article about women getting STDs from Oral Sex. Now I just wondered a few things:
is this only if they swallow?
Why wouldn’t the Acid (which is a form of HCl or can be asumed to be) in her stomach kill the bacteria/virus? I wouldn’t think it could be absorbed quick enough in the esophagus.
on a totally different note did you ever notice that when you highlight a smiley face on this board it turns inta a sad looking face? Try it
HCl does kill most bacteria. But not necessarily all, i.e., if too many of them entered, some may pass this defense.
Herpes likes the skin, especially this thin line between the red of the lip and the skin proper.
Syphilis enters the bloodstream directly, through microbreaks in the skin and mucosa.
Other viral deseases are more or less similar, i.e., they may infect directly. To begin with, the infectious agent (the bug) got to be present on the penile skin (sypilis), or in the sperm (HIV). The quantity also matters. Some bugs may infect even if the bulk of the the sperm is spit out eventually.
No. As pointed out by other posters. There are a lot of ways that you can be infected just by having something in your mouth. Here’s a another way…
The blood vessels under the tongue are really close to the surface. (Look in the mirror) Lower pressure in the mouth caused by sucking could cause a teeny tiny capillary to ruputure, which creates an inroad for disease. The capillaries in the gums are a little better off, but are more vulnerable in people with gingivitis.
Because the answer to 1) is no, 2) is largely irrelevant.
Oh yeah, for this reason, don’t bother asking me to suck the poison out if you get bit by a snake. However, if I’m not too busy, I might draw you a map to the hospital.
Chlamidya and Gonorrhea both, I believe can cause pharyngitis (sore throat) without hematogenous invasion (getting into the blood stream). All they have to do is attach and kill throat cells.
