I rarely play games, but I just got a new you-beaut machine, so I bought the Orange Box to have a play.
I can’t work out the weird installation process. Can someone enlighten me.
The box comes with 2 DVDs, but all that seems to be installed is a client (Steam) that then goes about downloading huge files off the net. This would probably blow out my ISP download limit.
And what about the second DVD? That was not even used.
Whats going on here? Are the DVDs just there for show or do they actually have games on them. It seems like I could have just payed for the serial number online and downloaded the whole thing.
I don’t have orange box, but I do have L4D and DoW2 which both require steam. IIRC when I went to install it, it prompted me to log into steam and register my code - it then installed off the disk and then downloaded patches.
If I were you I would delete the partially downloaded file (don’t worry, steam keeps track of what games you have so you won’t lose it even if you delete it) then, while still logged into steam with the account you registered the code to, try and install it from the disk and see how that works. It should detect that you have the game registered and install it correctly (hopefully).
Out of curiosity, what is your bandwidth capped at? If it’s something like 50+ gig, I don’t think any of the orange box games are so huge (even combined) that they would run over that. Of course if you download lots of other things and/or watch TV over the net it could be a problem.
Edit: the DVDs are NOT just for show, but you actually can just buy games straight from valve and download them without worrying about disks. In some cases its more expensive and in some it’s much, much cheaper (especially when steam has them on sale).
