Orbitz: Lying pop-under/kick-through

Already annoyed by pop-up and pop-under ads? Welcome to the world of “kick-through” ads.

And the lying part?

Wow. Shitloads of internet users really “appreciate” these ads eh?

Will you be “appreciating” the Black & Decker Reciprocating Saw that I cram up your urehtra?

Will you be “appreciating” the Cajun Spices that I lightly mist over your hemorhoids?

Of course he later claims that

I’ll be sure to try and “minimize the annoyance” of my belt sander as I cleave a layer of epidermis off your shiny ass.

Is THAT what’s going on? Thanks, I thought I was losing my mind…

You post as if those two notions are mutually exclusive… :stuck_out_tongue:

…d&r…

Pop-up is annoying, pop-under is not so bad. Kick-through is over the top. I used to use orbits. I think not anymore. Does anyone know if **ad-aware **or similar products can slay these e-Dragons? Is there some secret internet ad campaighn to see who can be the most annoying first? I shudder to think what might be next…

Proxomitron seems to kill the kick-throughs just as well as the rest of the lot. Bonus.

The guy’s lying through his teeth which any good salesperson does seamlessly. Similar to “going out of business” or “fire” sales they are deceitfully promoting themselves. I really don’t care as long as I can opt out of it. I’ve got pop up stopper and ad aware and the orbitz crap, and some others, still get through occassionally. Why hasn’t somebody lobbied congress over this?
I hate these pop-up bastards!!!

Who are these people who actually read pop-up ads and think “Oh yeah, I really need an X-Cam!” I’m glad that ad popped up while I was trying to buy a freaking plane ticket?! Cause, ya’ know, for me, more than one pop up ad, and I’m at the tool bar frantically trying to close all the windows without ever looking at them. Ebay’s been pissing me off, too. I’m trying to find a particular item, and if you can’t’ advertise it on the main page, I’m not interested anyway. I haven’t seen any kickthroughs yet, but I’ll be avoiding any site that uses them.

I do this m’self, and wonder if it’s not the reason I’ve not yet been vicitmized by these sleazy little bits of code. Running a W98 machine, using IE v whatever.it.is.this.week, I always close pop-ups/unders from the task bar, without ever approaching the thing with the cursor.

Has my habitual right-clicking been saving me aggravation? I must polish my right mouse button in appreciation, after cleaning its little ball.

[sub]I’ve got a happy mouse, man, I surf in zen-like contentment.[/sub]

Ugh–that’s terrible! I’ve been really pissed off at the talking ones lately (hearing some woman yell “Hey!” and start screaming at me about DVDs is enough to wake you up at 6 in the morning), but “kick-through” ads is so, so low.

That drives me up the wall faster than anything, when pop up ads shout, and flash colors at me, I hope i see whoever created them in hell so that I can pour lye into their open wounds.

Proxomitron, have I mentioned lately that I love you?

What pisses me off is I get these windows that pop up every now and then, even when I don’t have a browser open and am not even at the computer, with ads for scholarships. I am generally very good about not downloading spyware and I run Ad-Aware every now and then in case something sneaks through. I am wondering if it may be part of the software that I had to install for my DSL connection, I ran Ad-Aware and hadn’t seen the ads for a while, but when I had problems with my connection my Connection Manager said it had detected changes in my network configuration, asked me if I wanted to change it back, I did, and then I started getting this popup thing again.

I am going to go and live in a hole in the ground.

bye.

After WWIII, the only thing left will be cockroaches and pop-up ads.

Ding!

You have ‘winserv’ or ‘winservs’. Ad-Aware is mysteriously UN-Aware of it. Happily, it’s easy to kill.

  1. Ctrl-Alt-Del, Task Manager, kill the winserv or winservs process.

  2. Wait for it to be gone (it might give you an ‘end now?’ box. end it).

  3. Go to Start Button, Programs, Startup. Winserv is there. While holding the shift key down, right click on it, and select ‘Delete’. Release the shift key, select ‘Yes’ to confirm that you want it deleted (the shift key prevents it from ‘merely’ being placed in the recycle bin).

It’s gone.

Turn off Javascript.

…but turn it back on before you try to download a nvidia driver–they use a javascript form for the license acceptance.

took me 20 minutes to figure it out.

Yeah - sites like that annoy me. I find I can get 90% of my web surfin’ done just fine with Javascript off. For the other 10% I either turn it back on or try to find some other way of doing what I want.
