My generic mini-phalenopsis spiked … and the first flower bud is OPEN! Just smack-dab in time for Christmas
O Joy !!!
It’s white, with just a very pale pink center, with some pale yellow on the lip, and tiny pinker spots.
Yoooouuuuuuuuuuu
shoooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuullllllllllllllddddddddddd
seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
IT!
I’ll be taking photos.
BTW, this is being sent from midcoast Maine, where the outside temp is 15 degrees fahrenheit. No greenhouse involved; just windowsill.
And … drumroll … I have three additional phals also in spike! Flowers galore for the dead of winter … Not quite the tropics, but close enough.
Congratulations! In a related matter, the Red Lion amaryllis that I got from Trader Joe’s last January successfully woke up after a spring, summer and fall in the cupboard. There’s three leaves and a bud coming up right now; I expect it to flower by the end of the first week of the new year.
It’s nice to have color in the wintertime.
I’ve got a few phal orchids too. I agree they are very pretty and rewarding!
O Happy UPDATE!
I took a good look at my mini-phals … one that has already produced a developing spike has put out a SECOND SPIKE!!! Yikes and YAY!
And, in the realm of cheap amaryllis(es) … one white with seven blooms; one striped started to grow a spike before I even took it out of the box; and the solid red planted two weeks ago is also pushing up a spike.
My anthurium also has produced a new spathe
Just thought you’d like to know, fellow gardenees … and thanks for the replies.
