Order of the Stick - Book 6 Discussion Thread

Took me a while – pay careful attention to the X’s!

Love it!

This is the first post in a good while that’s actually gotten a smile out of me.

How smart is that magnificent shadowy bastard, anyway?

Now I want to play that dungeon.

So, yes, the boots have a purpose. But more importantly, what is the MITDs intent?

sneaky.

it’s a real shame it’ll probably help team evil in the long run.

Speaking of feet, apparently the MITD doesn’t have them or need to use them, there are no tracks near the new X’s

Did he just mark a couple of extra doors that maybe they haven’t been through?

Yes. The MiTD appears to be secretly plotting against Xykon and buddies.

wolfman, Belkar has tracked Monster-San before. He said the tracks were really weird in some unspecified way, but there were tracks.

Maybe he just has long enough arms to reach all those other doors from where he’s standing. Or telekinesis, or something.

And y’know, this is one situation where Redcloak’s methodical search actually would have worked better.

How so? It doesn’t make a difference which order you do the doors in. And the monster could still have marked a couple of extra ones.

Well, a meticulous search (say, starting in upper left corner and going row-by-row, working left to right) would mean that you’d notice if a door was marked out of order and then you’d ask Monster-san why he did this. Even if you didn’t get an answer (or an intelligible one, anyway), you would know that something was amiss.

Suppose they did the search as you describe. One day they get to the 57th door. The monster marks it, then also marks the 58th and 59th doors.

And then Redcloak says “Wait, didn’t we just do the green double door yesterday?”. It only requires one day of memories to call it out, as opposed to “Huh, I don’t recall doing that one. Must have been a while ago.”

Say what you will about Xykon, he understands the importance of having fun with whatever you do!

I wonder if MitD is just bored (or sympathetic to the other monsters in the dungeons), so it X’s doors just to get through the process faster (and with less ichor-shed).

Aha! I was right! He is getting too enthusiastic about X-ing doors…

Maybe they were tracks of the MitD dragging Mr Stiffy’s and Mr. Floppy’s bodies.

Probably some kind of levitate/fly ability. Note that one of the doors he just X-ed is not on the ground level. I doubt if his arms are that long. I don’t know what kind of limits there are on telekinesis, so that’s still a possibility.

ETA: Maybe the MitD is the son of Mr Fantastic. Then he could have easily stretched his arms that far…

He indeed is a “whistle while you slay” kinda guy.

So I WAS right about them getting experience. Plus those boots are bad news for the order, not that they were planning on grappling with Xykon much anyway.

And the MitD just got FAR more complex. Love it.

Ohhhhhh. Took me a minute, but I see now how he’s marked the extra doors! Sneaaaaky.

That sort of thing is my guess. I don’t think he has any reason to deliberately sabotage them. Doing so out of ignorance of the importance makes more sense.

Though I am surprised this is being revealed now, and not after all the doors are X-ed. I guess he didn’t want anyone to worry they might get through before the Order of the Stick gets there.

Plus, we know ahead of time, so, when they figure out that they have to go through them all again, we’ll be in on the joke.
