Order of the Stick - Book 6 Discussion Thread

Suppose he could arrange for one of the giants to throw him down the valley. But that would make him leave one of them alive, so probably not that.

Does anyone else still follow Erfworld? From the most recent update,

Well, I think Erfworld was assuming flyers with a lot more agility than a armed blimp.

I was searchign here to find out if anyone else caught that.

1060: Now Boarding

Weeee!

Are they supposed to be barbarian giants? Berserkers?

Sigh. Didn’t Roy just finish a six month battle? I don’t mind a (not so) random encounter when it’s germane to the plot or character development and/or the updates are coming fast and furious, but when it’s one update every three weeks or so, I’d be happy skipping the Roy vs. badasses recap.

The former. You can see them in the last panel of #1059 on a ridge above where the Mechane is flying. There’s three there, but only two jumped down onto the ship. I’m sure the third will come into play soon.

Yeah, the Thanksgiving break was bad and the X-mas/New Years one will be worse.

I think this battle will feature the first intentional use of the “Power of Greenhilt”, so that’s something to look forward to. Also the Mechane is going to lose some altitude because of the ripped gas bag, so it’s going to be in more danger. It may even have to ground on the side of the mountain.
Prediction: Belkar is going to get back into the battle by tricking a Giant into throwing him at the Mechane. Or maybe it’ll happen accidently, but it would be better if Belkar incites it.

Also some character development: First, Elan correctly judges the situation and where he’s needed the most, and second, Roy both acknowledges Elan’s good thinking, and refrains from correcting him on the irrelevant “magic air” point.

I thought that was particularly effective against the undead?

Particularly, yes, but that doesn’t mean it’s completely ineffective against everything else.

1061: Hangers On

Not much to comment on here. It’s unclear to me if the giant jumping on the ship got damaged by the propellers, or was just knocked off the ship or both. Also unclear if the axe he dropped also damaged the balloon. Plot inched forward 1mm.

I’m thinking this fight will last until around late July 2017. Any takers?

There’s red marks on the giant’s arm near the propellers, so it looks like he took damage. The real question is whether he’s holding on to the edge of the boat or not. Well, if he’s holding on, he’ll continue to take damage for a while. And he missed the balloon because of the increased speed, so he didn’t damage it.

Even though the plot didn’t move forward much, I’m glad we got an update now. I was afraid we wouldn’t get any until after New Years.

My concern would not be so much with the giant getting damaged (although that was worth a chuckle), but with the giant’s arm damaging the propeller.

Some good quips from both Elan and Roy.

I am holding on to the faint hope that the slow pace is because Rich is trying to finish some of the kickstarter rewards by the end of the year, and not because the holidays are slowing him down. FAINT hope.

Well I for one hope the giant doesn’t hurt his arm. The strip’s slow enough already.

1062

Wonk! Didn’t see that coming.

Nice use of the ship’s railing to block Bandana’s eyes. Is she alive or dead? To be revealed later…

I can’t imagine she’s dead. These aren’t zero level characters and getting wonked with a wrench can’t be worse than getting wanged with a mace (which wouldn’t kill anyone credible with a single blow).
