Order of the Stick - Book 6 Discussion Thread

I can’t help but feel that Roy’s comment in the last panel is more for the benefit of the fourth wall than for Elan and Bandana.

I’m sure you’re right. Although, in-story, Roy wanting to set aside whatever drama happened in the crew and keep things moving in blissful ignorance so long as stuff is “fixed” seems reasonable.

Chekov’s Ballista states that when you explictly drop all your ballista in a mountain range somewhere, later you’ll wish you had them. Or maybe it was just a final example of Bandana knowing more than Andi.

If they come to a point where they need the ballistas and don’t have them, then we’ll just have mutiny 2.0. I’m betting instead that they really will have to masquerade as just another civilian vessel, and Bandana’s decision will look like foresight.

The way I would write the next few panels (because I am a total asshole) would be to have the ballistas land on and kill Belkar.

I don’t hang out on the GITP boards because I don’t hang out a ton of places and have heard bad things about insta-bans and so forth, so I have a question;

Has there been any of this kind of “damn strip is stalling and going nowhere - this is boring” criticism on that board? Is there any chance Rich actually got told by anyone?

There’s a fair bit of that sort of criticism, and it’s against the rules there, and the rules are enforced.

They don’t insta-ban (well, except for the same sort of things we insta-ban for, like spammers), but they do have more rules, and are more strict about them.

Wait, let me amend that: Complaints about the rate at which new updates are posted are against the rules. Complaints about the artistic pace are allowed, but are usually self-policed by the other members of the forum.

It’s a good part of why I prefer to post over here. Not that particular rule, but I just think it’s dumb when things get banned because people find them annoying. Have a special place for it, sure. But banning? Not a fan.

Yeah, a ‘No Criticism’ Rule is a total non-starter for me. I guess I will continue to ignore their board.

You’re allowed to criticise the direction of the strip. You’re not allowed to complain about slow updates.

Thanks for the clarification, but I still have no interest in walking into a minefield where I say something fairly innocent, like my suggestion of him getting a couple of strips ahead of himself before taking a break to do other things, and having that result in a warning or a flood of White Knighting.

The flood of White Knighting at the OOTS Boards is more likely, IMHO. There are still a few posters though whose posts are worth reading though. I haven’t posted there recently or visited all that often either. Just not enough wheat for all the chaff.

FWIW, I’ve noticed the threads there have updated much more slowly than when Burlew was putting out more frequent updates. Makes sense.

I think the last three panels in the strip are 4th wall breaking, and I hope they herald the Order getting off this boat soon. If it means Captain Mary Sue is along for the ride, oh well.

1077

Y’know, usually, the biggest joke is in the last panel, but I think in this one my favorite was the name of the spell.

And Haley, Belkar, and V just wrapped up the rest of the non-main-plot-advancing fight off-panel, which is good, too.

Assuming you are talking about people rushing in to defend Rich from any and all criticism, that may be the first accurate use of that term I’ve seen in a long time.

Anyways, I wonder if Blackwing’s last comment is also fourth wall breaking. No more making an entire B-plot out of unimportant stuff.

When did Roy get impaled on his sword? At Gerard’s Gate, or during the battle in the arena?

Didn’t Elan’s dad also run Roy through when Dad was stabbing Elan?

other way round, he wanted to stab Roy, Elan intervened, Tarquin was ‘Youre on full HP, you’ll survive’ STAB

1078 But If You Try Sometimes

What an interesting twist… the plot moves on.
