Order of the Stick - Book 6 Discussion Thread

So prediction time: Will the upcoming #1100 be a special strip or will Burlew ignore the double zero and just have a regular strip? He’s done both.

100 200 300 400 500 600 700 800 900 1000

I think he’s been ignoring the double-zeroes for a while now: I think the anticlimactic mention in #600 was the last he paid any attention at all to it. 1000 was a big epic page because the story happened to call for a big epic page right there, not because it was 1000.

I don’t know, though, it does seem to be building up to something very soon.

Hee, from #900:

Elan: “Belkar kicked me in the face by accident.”
Belkar: “Sorry about that. I thought you were Roy.”

1098: The Crucial Ingredient

Edit: Heh, I guess I missed the earlier post.

Hee, the last panel with the demon roaches getting out of the fridge and one has a bullwhip and Indiana Jones hat.

1099 Cool Will be the Biggest Obstacle

Blackwing’s last comment reminds me of his reaction to V’s idea to transform him into a giant Roc. “I am torn between moral outrage and giddy anticipation.”

Waiting, waiting…

I like how right after the guard volunteered to accompany them on their highly dangerous mission, Roy mentioned her name. Like he said, everything helps.

The better choice for Blackwing is probably the Elixir of Fire Breath, anyway. Both on grounds of practicality and cool.

One night think that the best candidate for the Greater Magic Fang potion would be a restored allosaur, although perhaps releasing one in a cramped underground lair would not be the best tactic…

Just make sure to dispel it first, and then use the potion, not the other way around. And block out all thoughts concerning pharmaceutical dosage specifications.

1100 is UP: 1100 Into the Tunnels - Giant in the Playground Games

1100: That’s UP, I say

Hey, first time I got in to do this first!!!

Heh. “And you were worried that she wouldn’t fit in.”

My thoughts exactly.

I’m gonna be disappointed when the Evil Trio guys suck V back down because I want to see V toast some vampires.

Sp they just came through the sealed doors, right? So that confirms that there really wasn’t anyone there, and Durkon used his memories to push them away.

I don’t understand this comment. We saw the vamps move away from the door and head towards the dining hall that Durkon suggested. Why do you think this needed confirmation?

Because, up until this point, we had no idea what was actually behind that door. We knew Durkon tricked them into leaving for some reason, but not what the reason was. We had several posts where people were guessing.

I’m arguing that we now have confirmation that it was to save people–the night watch.

Though I now notice it also meant they didn’t make it to the main entrance, ensuring our heroes would encounter the people Durkon saved, giving them time to work together.

Strip 1095 panel 3 shows the vampires attacking the temple at that very door. You can tell it’s the same one because Brother Sandstone is there, delaying the vampires until they get the door closed. We saw him earlier being drained in 1084 & 1085.

The same panel shows that.

That door is the main entrance. The one that the Order entered through is a private door to the outside so the priests can check the weather. (Here’s a cite (panel 4) if you need one.) The town of Firmament, like all dwarven towns, is virtually all underground, so the main door to the temple is also underground.
