Order of the Stick - Book 6 Discussion Thread

Someone’s about to get a prestige level or two.

Here’s a thought. Durkon is confused between what he did and what the vampire did. Maybe this IS the ex-vampire soul we’re seeing.

Anyone else notice that, unlike all other times he’s been portrayed, Thor’s sober as a judge.

He’s frequently been shown sober.

etc. I think he’s more often shown sober than drunk.

Speaking of, the real victim in all this poor Jirix who is no longer the only guy in the comic to directly chat with his god.

(I don’t think the Moot counts since that was a one-way projection of the deities’ votes, not a conversation)

…don’t miss those boots.

Definitely. His expression isn’t particularly Godlike either; it’s almost as if he’s talking with a peer or acquaintance. I can’t say I blame Thor for being concerned, what with that desert rift in the space-time continuum being poked at by an evil army.

I suspect that will be Mihrah’s role, notwithstanding her current position. She’s still a fantastic character though: she’s a good foil for pretty much anyone. I could imagine her being a stand-in for the reader at times.

ETA: Sober can mean not drunk with emotion too. Thor seems a lot more focused than usual.

Any guesses about what Thor’s going to say next strip? I’m thinking that he’s going to start off by chiding Durkon for poking all of these dangerous holes in reality, whereupon Durkon will get the chance to explain about Xykon and Redcloak’s plan to take over the Gates, which (I’m guessing) Thor and the other deities don’t know about yet.

Seeing as people with bodies can apparently directly plane shift into these places, could someone directly plane shift out without needing a body?

Or is it that Thor could just give him a new body before he leaves, and then provide him a plane shift out, making everting he gave him in his realm?

Yeah, exactly. Thor’s acting like - for once - an adult being with responsibilities and things that need doing. The whole tone is off for him.

We have seen him haggling with Hel for individual dwarf souls though - he’s not entirely a booze-fueled maniac.

So, the tower is what they can see of one of Thor’s boots?

Of his right leg. Look at the splash panel, on the fur at the top of Thor’s right boot. Notice anything unusual there?

Also notice how the cloud/ground looks when Roy was in the waiting area:
487

versus what Durkon is standing on:
1133

I’d chalk the new cloud imagery to Burlew’s 2.0 art style in this book. Roy died in the comic around… uhhh… 1982 our time

Near would have noticed them there! Thanks.

I phrased this poorly. I had chalked it up to the new artwork. I get that they’re not on clouds now.

Funny! Glad you pointed it out.

There’s a problem of scale, though. Over the last 2 strips it looks like they walk for a few minutes before reaching the tower/ leg. In the splash panel it looks like only a few steps.

I’m a little unclear on what, exactly, Thor was glad to hear Durkon say. At first I thought he was glad to hear Durkon was anxious to get back to life and continue the fight, but then I noticed that he spoke up as soon as Durkon mentioned the Snarl specifically, so maybe he’s glad to hear Durkon talk about the Snarl because that means they can talk about it and the five gates and whatnot…? I don’t remember if the gods ever talk about the Snarl with people who don’t already know about it.
