Order of the Stick - Book 6 Discussion Thread

A prestige class, maybe?

Could it be an Illudium Q-36 Space Modulator?

Is there perhaps some feature dwarves have from earlier editions of D&D that they lost in 3.5? Even maybe something they got back in an obscure book?

I like this theory.

I wonder if, when the conversation is over, Minrah will be going into Valhalla. Presumably, Durkon will be resurrected, or we’ve wasted like 10-15 strips here.

My guess is he is getting a Holy/Artifact weapon, probably put in a secret compartment a few centuries ago and forgotten about.

Sarcastic Thor is the best Thor.

I would be just like Burlew to defy our expectations. He could keep Durkon dead and send Minrah back to become a permanent member of the group.

Durkon probably will be needing a new weapon, since I think the vampire threw away his heirloom hammer. So a holy relic weapon would certainly be appreciated.

Durkon’s last line, agreeing with Thor that Minrah didn’t spend much time talking with Elan and that he’d said the same thing, made me wonder. Where did he say that? Searched back and found it: last line of 1133. Is refering to a strip only 13 back considered a callback?

Those gods are pretty charismatic aren’t they?
Fantastic execution by Burlew. I’ve said it before: if he lived in Japan, he would oversee a staff of 3-5 and would be putting out 8-20 pages per week, about 1-6 panels per page. Sure, they would be in black and white, but still.

Souped up Hammer of Thunderbolts? Ax of the Dwarven Lords is out, because Cleric.

3.5 and Pathfinder cleric can use axes.

Even 2e opened it up: COMPLETE BOOK OF DWARVES offered the Ritual Priest kit for dwarven clerics — which basically says, hey, if you’re the one who gets to talk at weddings and funerals and name-giving ceremonies, you’re probably respected by dwarves who’d pick up axes and fight to the death for the stronghold that is this community, right? So feel free to figure that’s you, too…

Hmm…possibly the pre-3rd Edition magic resistance?

So just finally caught up after quitting nearly half a decade ago when Durkon got vamped and updates got super slow. It seems like not a lot of strips for how long it’s been, hows the update schedule now a days?

Also something’s been bothering me about the vampire fight. That was the OOTS at peak performance, and they still got trounced. I don’t see how they can plan an execute a fight any better than that, and if it wasn’t even enough to beat some secondary villains what hope can they possibly have against Xykon. Other than another deus exy ending.

To be fair, OOTS minus Durkon isn’t really peak performance.

And OOTS plus Durkon won the fight.

Yeah, at that level, power mostly comes from the spellcasters, and the Order only has two and a half spellcasters.

Also, I don’t think it’d be deus ex machina for there to be some schisms within Team Evil: There’s been plenty of setup (including in the past couple of strips) for Monster-San and/or Redcloak to turn on Xykon. And there’s a decent chance that either of them might be able to solo Xykon, so them plus the Order would certainly be doable.

The strip started with the characters converting from 3.0 to 3.5. So 3.0 rules wouldn’t seem to be “a few generations back” when Durkon himself has been a 3.0 character. If Thor is referring to an old edition rule, I’d assume it was from something before the 3rd Edition.
